Hurriyat urges Omar govt to reinstate employees fired over terror links

Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday asked the elected government in Jammu and Kashmir to take measures to stop the "injustice" of dismissing employees over alleged terror links and reinstate all those who have been terminated so far. His remark came a day after two government employees were dismissed from service by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for alleged terror links. "Two more government employees terminated by the stroke of a pen without any legal recourse! Families rendered destitute before the onset of harsh winters. Punishment and fear is the hallmark of an authoritarian mindset that has been ruling us here," Farooq said in a post on X. He also called upon the elected government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Union territory to reinstate all the employees who have been terminated "in an unjust manner". "The elected administration should take immediate measures to stop this injustice and reinstate all the terminated in this unjust ..

NIA seeking death penalty for Yasin Malik deeply disturbing: Hurriyat

The Hurriyat Conference on Sunday said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) seeking the death penalty for Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JLF) chief Yasin Malik is "deeply disturbing" for the people of J and K. The NIA has approached the Delhi High Court seeking the capital punishment for the separatist leader who was awarded life term by a trial court in a terror funding case. The plea by the agency has been listed for hearing on May 29. In an e-mailed statement on Sunday, the Hurriyat said, "The central investigative agency seeking death penalty for Yasin Malik is deeply disturbing for the people of the J&K." The separatist amalgam alleged it was a "deliberate attempt" to provoke and intimidate people. "Unfortunately, such directives and decrees are brought in by the authorities -- who claim peace and development as their agenda which seems to be a deliberate attempt to provoke and intimidate people and add to their concerns and fears," it added. The Hurriyat appealed to

Holding events in J-K no substitute to dialogue needed to address conflict

The Hurriyat Conference on Sunday said holding international events in Jammu and Kashmir is not a substitute to the need to address the conflict in the region for ensuring peace and development. Conducting international summits in Jammu and Kashmir to push a certain narrative will not change the reality of the need to address and resolve the lingering Kashmir conflict peacefully, through dialogue among stakeholders, if peace and development of J-K is the goal, it said in a statement here. The Kashmir Valley will host a three-day G20 working group meeting on tourism starting from Monday. China has already refused to attend the meeting in Srinagar. The Hurriyat, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, also paid tributes to Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq and former separatist leader Abdul Gani Lone, who both fell to the bullets of militants on this day in 1990 and 2002, respectively. In the martyrdom of Mirwaiz Farooq, the nation lost a great selfless leader, the guiding force of whose beliefs and ..

HC seeks NIA's stand on Hurriyat leader's challenge to framing of charges

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the stand of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Kashmiri separatist leader Nayeem Khan's challenge to the framing of charges against him in an alleged terror funding case. A bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Talwant Singh issued notice to the NIA on the petition and listed it for hearing on August 3. A trial court had last year framed charges against Khan and others in the case related to alleged terrorist and secessionist activities that disturbed the Valley in 2017. Hurriyat Conference leader Khan was arrested on July 24, 2017 and is currently in judicial custody. The high court had issued a notice on Khan's bail plea in the matter earlier this year. The trial court had ordered framing of charges against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed, Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, Kashmiri separatist leaders, including Yasin Malik, Shabbir Shah, Masarat Alam and others, under various sections of the anti-terror law UAPA
