India's first indigenously developed and built hydrogen fuel cell ferry, launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, has zero emission and zero noise and can reduce the impact of global warming. According to Cochin Shipyard here, which constructed the fuel cell ferry, the adoption of green hydrogen as a maritime fuel is at the forefront of India's commitment to a sustainable future that aims for net zero emissions by 2070. The inland waterway vessel, under the Harit Nauka initiative, is a pilot project to demonstrate the technology for the maritime sector, Cochin Shipyard said in a statement. "The fuel cell powered vessel has zero emission, zero noise and is energy efficient, which in turn reduces the effect of global warming," it said. With the inauguration, JSL will become India's first stainless steel company to install such kind of plant on a commercial scale, the officials said. NTPC arm NGEL has signed an agreement with the government of Andhra Pradesh for the development of an integrated green hydrogen hub. Govt issues guidelines for transport pilot projects on green hydrogen use
The government on Wednesday issued scheme guidelines to support pilot projects based on the use of green hydrogen as fuel in buses, trucks and four-wheelers. The scheme will be implemented with a total budgetary outlay of Rs 496 crore till the financial year 2025-26, a statement by the Ministry of New Renewable Energy said. The central government has come out with guidelines for undertaking pilot projects for using green hydrogen in the transport sector. CIAL, BPCL sign pact to set up first green hydrogen plant at Cochin airport
In a strategic move to bolster its pathbreaking green energy initiatives, Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) for setting up a green hydrogen plant in the premises of Cochin Airport. This collaborative effort will result in the world's first green hydrogen plant and fueling station located within an airport setting, CIAL said in a statement on Wednesday. ONGC gets govt clearance for clean energy projects, gas business unit
State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) will set up a new unit to house its gas business and clean energy projects such as green hydrogen, as it looks to fast-track foray into new areas. In a stock exchange filing, the firm said it last month received approval of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for formation of a wholly-owned subsidiary company for gas business and clean energy projects. "The proposed name of the company is 'ONGC Green Limited' subject to approval of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India," it said, adding the company board at its meeting on Tuesday approved the formation of the wholly-owned subsidiary for green energy and gas business. The International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at GIFT City in Gandhinagar on Tuesday announced a strategic collaboration with the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) and state-owned Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) to set up a global hydrogen trading mechanism. "A key aspect of this collaboration is the subsequent launch of the Global Hydrogen Price Index, a benchmark that will play a pivotal role in price discovery and market information on the burgeoning green hydrogen market in India," the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) said in a release.
