The civic authority here ordered an inquiry on Wednesday after a dead frog was allegedly found in a packet of potato wafers. The complaint came days after a Mumbai resident claimed to have found a piece of human finger in the ice cream he had ordered online. Samples of the production batch of the wafer packet will be collected as part of the probe, said an official of the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation. "One Jasmin Patel informed us that a dead frog was found in a packet of Crunchex, manufactured by Balaji Wafers. We visited the shop from where it had been purchased last night. Preliminary probe suggested it was indeed a frog in a decomposed state," food safety officer D B Parmar told reporters. "As directed by the municipal commissioner, we will collect samples of this batch of wafer packets to conduct an inquiry," he added. A woman here has claimed she has found a centipede inside an ice-cream tub she ordered through an instant delivery app, said food safety officials, who have launched a probe into the matter. In a post on X on June 15, the woman, who identified herself as Deepa Devi, shared a picture showing the insect inside the ice-cream tub. Input costs for ice creams have gone up considerably in the last one year; skimmed milk powder prices have moved from Rs 140 a kg last year around the same time to over Rs 240 a kg now. Besides, prices of sugar, another key ingredient in ice creams too have risen by around 30-40 per cent, and milk fat prices have grown by around 35 per cent, say players. The country's largest player in terms of market share, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) which sells Amul ice creams, has risen prices by 5-8 per cent this month. Confirming the development, R S Sodhi, managing director of GCMMF said that input costs have risen and hence we have raised prices by 5-8 per cent. He, however, added, that the season as such is expected to be good and Amul is ready with a 650,000 litres per day (lpd) capacity for the summer season. .
