IIT Delhi, IISc make mark in QS Rankings for sustainability and environment

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi is at top among universities in India for sustainability, climbing the table by 255 places to reach 171 globally, according to QS Rankings announced on Tuesday. A total of 78 Indian universities have featured in the 2025 QS Sustainability rankings, with nine of the top 10 institutions in the country improving their ranking this year and 21 new institutions making an entry. IIT-Delhi and IIT-Kanpur have been ranked among the world's top 100 for environmental impact. Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has been ranked among world's top 50 for environment education. "Of the 78 Indian universities that feature in the 2025 QS Sustainability rankings, 34 have improved on last year's placing and eight have maintained their positions. AAI issues show-cause to DIAL after IIT-Delhi report finds structural gaps

State-owned AAI has issued a show cause notice to Delhi airport operator DIAL seeking an explanation on certain structural weaknesses detected during the study by an IIT Delhi team following the roof collapse incident at the old departure forecourt of Terminal 1 in June this year, according to a senior official. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) is the operator of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), the country's largest airport. It is operated under a public private partnership. When contacted, a DIAL spokesperson told PTI that its team of experts is currently preparing a comprehensive response to the queries raised by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). French institute Ecole Polytechnique signs agreements with two IITs

A leading academic institution in France has signed "specific agreements" with two IITs to foster a deeper exchange of knowledge between the two countries. The agreements were signed during the visit of President and Director General of Ecole Polytechnique, Laura Chaubard, to India during October 7-11, the French Embassy said on Friday. Ecole Polytechnique was founded in 1794 with the aim of providing the country with engineers trained to the highest level, it said in a statement. "Today, it is a leading higher education institution globally, which combines high-level research, education and innovation at the cutting-edge of science and technology and promotes a culture of excellence, and upholds a long- standing humanist tradition," the embassy said. Ecole Polytechnique has signed specific agreements with both IIT-Delhi and IIT-Bombay, the statement said. IIT-Delhi sets up 6-member committee to probe fire incidents in buses

IIT-Delhi experts will enquire the recent incidents of bus fires and have recommended the names of six people who will serve as members of the committee, an official statement said. The recommendation of the names of the experts came in the aftermath of directions from Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot to the Transport Department to constitute a committee to enquire into the incidents of fire in buses. The committee will be chaired by Professor Anjan Ray, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and comprise experts from multiple departments, including Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering, as well as the Centre for Automotive Research, the statement read. A panel of three experts of IIT Delhi has told the Supreme Court that there was was only one right answer and not two to a controversial physics question that was asked in the NEET-UG 2024 examination. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala on Monday had asked the Director, IIT-Delhi to set up a team of three experts for going into the particular question of physics and submit a report on the correct answer by Tuesday noon. NEET-UG: SC asks IIT-D to set up team of experts, seeks report on answer

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Director, IIT-Delhi to set up a team of three experts that would go into a particular question asked in the NEET-UG 2024 examination and submit a report on the correct answer by Tuesday noon. The top court took note of the submissions of some aspirants that a question related to an atom and its characteristics had two correct answers and a set of examinees, who gave one particular answer out of the two correct ones, were awarded four marks. This, the petitioners contended before a bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, would have a significant impact on the final merit list of successful candidates. JEE-Advanced results announced, Ved Lahoti from IIT Delhi bags top rank

The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)-Advanced results were announced Sunday morning, with Ved Lahoti from IIT Delhi zone bagging the top rank by securing 355 out of 360 marks. A total of 48,248 candidates have qualified the exam for admission to IITs out of which 7,964 are female. According to IIT Madras, which conducted the exam this time, Dwija Dharmeshkumar Patel of IIT Bombay zone is the top-ranked female candidate with 322 out of 360 marks. Her all India rank is 7. Other candidates in top 10 are: Aditya (IIT Delhi zone), Bhogalpalli Sandesh (IIT Madras zone), Rhythm Kedia (IIT Roorkee zone), Putti Kushal Kumar (IIT Maadras), Rajdeep Mishra (IIT Bombay zone), Koduri Tejeswar (IIT Madras zone), Dhruvi Hemant Doshi (IIT Bombay zone) and Alladabona SSDB Sidhvik Suhas (IIT Madras zone). In suspected case of suicide, IIT-D student found hanging in hostel room

In a suspected case of suicide, an M.Tech student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi was found hanging in his hostel room, police said on Friday. The matter came to light after the family of the student, Sanjay Nerkar (24), asked his hostel mates to check on him as he was not answering his phone, they said. Nerkar (24) stayed in room number 757 at Dronacharya Hostel. He was a native of Nashik, Maharashtra, a police official said. "Nerkar's family members called him on Thursday night. When he did not answer the phone, the family members asked his hostel mates to check on him," a police officer said. When the other students went to his room, they found it locked from inside. They informed the hostel guard, who broke open the door. Nerkar's body was found hanging from the ceiling of the room, the officer said. The student's family members have been informed and an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death, police said.
