Twenty officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were awarded the coveted President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Independence Day. Six officers -- Joint Director Nawal Bajaj, Superintendent of Police (SP) Virender Mohan Mittal, Additional SP Maharshi Ray Hajong, Deputy SP Nilambur Narayanan Srikrishnan and Sub-Inspectors Geeta Paul and Rajeshwar Singh Rana -- have been awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, the CBI said in a statement. Delhi has been wrapped in a security blanket for Tuesday's 77th Independence Day celebrations, with more than 10,000 personnel manning the area in and around the Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation, police said. Around 1,000 cameras with facial recognition and video analytic systems have been installed in and around the Mughal-era fort and at other strategic locations to ensure security and monitor VVIP movements, the police said on Tuesday. Suman Nalwa, the Delhi Police spokesperson, said, "The entire Delhi Police is on alert. Elaborate security arrangements have been made, the exercise for which started around three-four months ago. Anti-terror activities are also being done to check the areas in the districts near the venue. Internet services restored, security stepped up in Nuh ahead of I-Day

Mobile internet services were restored in Nuh on Monday as police stepped up security ahead of Independence Day in the Haryana district where communal clashes broke out two weeks ago, police said. Following the violence on July 31, mobile internet services were completely stopped by the government till August 8. The suspension was subsequently extended till August 13. Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, died in the clashes that erupted in Nuh after a procession of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) was attacked by mobs on July 31 and spread to adjoining areas, including Gurugram. Markets are now open in the violence-affected areas and people are visiting them. Ten days after the violence, orders were given by the district magistrate to open all educational institutions. 954 police medals, including 230 for gallantry, announced on I-Day eve

The government on Monday announced service medals for 954 police personnel of various central and state forces on the eve of Independence Day. According to the Union Home Ministry's order, 230 personnel will be decorated with bravery medals, including a President's Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG). The lone PPMG medal has been announced for CRPF officer Loukrakpam Ibomcha Singh. This is his second gallantry medal in service. The other medals include 82 President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 642 Police Medal for Meritorious Service. The maximum number of Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) has been announced for the Jammu and Kashmir Police (55), followed by the Maharashtra Police (33), the Central Reserve Police Force (27) and Chhattisgarh Police (24). These medals are announced twice a year, the other being on the occasion of Republic Day.

Delhi Police issues traffic advisory for Independence Day on Tuesday

The Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory to ensure smooth vehicular movement in the city on Tuesday, when Independence Day will be celebrated.
