Following Gaza ceasefire deal, IMEC Corridor can become reality: Biden

With the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas in Gaza Strip, the path-breaking IMEC Corridor that stretches from India to Europe through the Middle East could now become a reality, US President Joe Biden said Wednesday. At the G20 in Delhi on September 23, I rallied key countries behind a vision of an economic corridor from India across the Middle East to Europe. That vision can now become a reality, Biden told reporters at the White House as he announced the agreement between Israel and Hamas on Gaza and hostages. The India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC) is seen as an alternative to China's One Belt, One Road Initiative. Signed by eight countries India, US, Saudi Arabia, UAE, European Union, France, Germany and Italy in New Delhi on September 9, 2023, it aims to bolster transportation and communication links between Europe and Asia through rail and shipping networks. The IMEC Corridor project immediately hit a roadblock with the Hamas attack on Israel in October ...

Pannun murder plot: US seeks meaningful accountability from India's probe

The US has said it would not be fully satisfied until there is "meaningful accountability" resulting from India's investigations into the alleged foiled plot to assassinate Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. The Indian government has denied its association or involvement with such a plot to kill an American national on US soil. Following allegations by the US, New Delhi had set up an inquiry committee to investigate the matter. We continue to expect and want to see accountability based on the results of that investigation, and certainly the United States won't be fully satisfied until there is meaningful accountability resulting from that investigation, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters at a news conference. Patel was responding to a question on last week's visit of an Indian Enquiry Committee to the US for talks. Change in White House won't affect ties, wants India as 'BFF': US envoy

The US wants to build a "BFF (best friends forever) relationship" with India, and a change of guard at the White House will not change ties between the two countries, US Ambassador Eric Garcetti said on Wednesday. Without naming China, Garcetti said if New Delhi has to contend with "regional competitors", it will have to reduce the dependence on a single country and added that such a reliance is not just an economic risk, but a security risk as well. Speaking at the Milken Institute event here at a time when five pension funds with USD 1.8 trillion of assets under management are scouting for investment opportunities in India, Garcetti exhorted the Americans to invest more in the country for their own good. Borrowing the acronym of the pension funds' tour christened Building Financial Futures, Garcetti made clear American intent on India-US ties. "We want to build a BFF (best friends forever) relationship between the US and India," he said. Deploying a colloquial phrase popular on

India-US partnership to grow regardless of who wins elections: USISPF CEOi

The India-US relationship would continue its upward trajectory regardless of who wins the presidential elections, USISPF president and CEO Mukesh Aghi said, underlining that the contest between Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump was "too close to call". The geopolitical alignment between the two countries is very strong, Aghi said in an interview with PTI on Thursday. "What are the implications, regardless of who comes in? I think India stays critical to US geopolitical ambitions. That is trying to contain the rise of aggressive China. It also serves India's interest. That it has a partner to deal with a neighbour who will never accept India as an equal partner. "The alignment geopolitically is very, very strong between the two countries. So, regardless of who comes in, either Trump or Kamala Harris, the partnership will continue to go in that direction," he said.
