First trial shipment of bananas exported to Netherlands: Comm ministry

The commerce ministry on Friday said the first trial shipment of bananas has been exported to the Netherlands. For the trial shipment of bananas, Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has enlisted the support of ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), Lucknow, for technical assistance while InI Farms has partnered with Del Monte for marketing and distribution in Europe, and Maersk for logistics, it said. It added that banana exports to the Netherlands would lead to higher prices and increased income for farmers. Despite being the world's largest banana producer, India's export share is currently just 1 per cent in the global market, though the country accounts for 26.45 per cent of the world's banana production at 35.36 million metric ton. India, Netherlands to cooperate on regulations for medical products

India and the Netherlands will cooperate on regulations for medical products and enhance the quality of healthcare services in both countries. At Hague, India and the Netherlands have "signed a memorandum of intent (MoI) to cooperate on medical product regulation and enhance the quality of medical products and healthcare services for both countries". The MoI was signed during a meeting of Bhagwant Khuba, Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers with Ernst Kuipers Minister of Health, Welfare and Sports of the Kingdom of Netherlands. Netherlands emerges as India's third largest trading partner in 2022-23

The Netherlands has emerged as India's third largest exports destination after the US and UAE during 2022-23 on account of a surge in shipment of goods such as petroleum products, electronic items, chemicals, and aluminium goods, according to the data of the commerce ministry. India's trade surplus with the Netherlands has also increased from USD 8 billion in 2021-22 to USD 13 billion in 2022-23. The Netherlands has taken over major destinations such as the UK, Hong Kong, Bangladesh and Germany, the data showed. India's exports to the Netherlands rose by about 48 per cent to USD 18.52 billion during 2022-23 as against USD 12.5 billion in 2021-22. In 2021-22 and 2020-21, the outbound shipments to the European country stood at USD 12.55 billion and USD 6.5 billion, respectively.
