IND vs BAN: Elaborate security arrangements for 2nd Test in Kanpur

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the India-Bangladesh second Test match to be played at the International Green Park stadium here scheduled from September 27, a senior official said on Tuesday. An FIR was filed against 20 members of the Akhilesh Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha on Monday for allegedly organising a 'havan' by obstructing the road before the stadium to protest against atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, said ACP Harish Chander. Police said a "fool-proof" security plan has been chalked out for India and Bangladesh cricket teams which are supposed to arrive here by Tuesday evening. Kanpur's Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Harish Chander told PTI they have sought adequate police force, including senior rank officials, to be deployed for the match. We are reviewing the security arrangements to leave no stone unturned and (are) confident of getting an adequate police force to meet the requirements, he added. The officer said they were coordina

IND vs BAN: Pant on great relationship on and off the field with Gill

The great bonhomie that they share off the field is reflected when they are battling it out on the 22 yards, India's star keeper Rishabh Pant revealed the secret of his successful partnership with Shubman Gill during team's second innings in the opening Test against Bangladesh. After both Pant and Gill failed to make an impact in the first innings, they conjured a 167-run stand during the second innings, which turned out to be very important in the final context of the match. "When you have a great relationship outside the field, it helps to bat with that guy. We were having fun, having chats, talking about the game, and staying relaxed. At the end of the day, we both knew what we wanted to do," Pant, who smashed a ton on Test comeback, said in a BCCI video posted on social media. "The understanding of the game for me is that cricket should improve wherever you play. So, I was trying to help the team that you can set a fielder here, and it was amazing. I enjoyed it." The century wa

Ashwin calls fielding coach Dilip a superstar for helping Jaiswal to field

A Google search about T Dilip strangely returned his profile as an internet personality' but for veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin the underrated support staff is a superstar who has improved the Indian fielding standards, particularly that of slip catching. Dilip, who replaced R Sridhar as India fielding coach during Rahul Dravid's stint as head coach, continued in his role when Gautam Gambhir took over as well. After factoring in excellent feedback from the team members, who thought Dilip introduced some innovative drills, the BCCI decided to persist with him. He also introduced the now popular 'Best Fielder' medal after every match, which is presented in a quick ceremony inside the dressing room. If you want to talk about fielding, where should we start? Let's talk about Dilip sir first. Actually, we'd searched for our fielding coach (in Google) and he turned out to be an internet personality. So unfair, Ashwin told reporters here on Sunday after the first Test against ...

Pant's coach Devender ranks century against Bangladesh on par with Gabba

When Rishabh Pant called up his coach Devender Sharma ahead of his much-anticipated Test comeback, the flamboyant and gritty batter got one advice: 'Head down kar ke khelnaa'. It was a note of caution about respecting the good balls. With a scintillating hundred in his comeback Test, Pant has reaffirmed his status as one of the most important players in the traditional format. "Obviously I am very happy for Rishabh. In fact, he could have got a hundred in the first innings also and I was a bit sad that he didn't get that," Devendra, who has mentored Pant since his pre-teen days at the iconic Sonnet Club told PTI after the end of third day's play. "But today he was flawless. This hundred is an important innings for him as it's his first international ton since comeback." Pant has now equalled MS Dhoni with most number of Test hundreds (6) and that too in his 34th red ball international game compared to 90 played by the former India captain. Add to it, more than half a dozen knocks

IND vs BAN: R Ashwin reveals special bond with teammate Ravindra Jadeja

Hunting in pair is an often-used maxim about fast bowlers, but Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have given a new spin to it, consistently troubling the opposition in more ways than one. The latest mission by the Tango and Cash of modern Indian cricket was against Bangladesh in the ongoing first Test here when they added 199 runs for the seventh wicket to lead India to 376 all out from a wispy 144 for six. It was a new high even for the Ashwin-Jadeja combine, who have registered three 50-plus stands together to steady the Indian ship in the past. Ashwin did not hide his admiration for Jadeja. I always envy him. So gifted, so talented. He's found ways to maximise his potential. I wish I could be him, but I'm glad I am myself, Ashwin told reporters during the post-day press meet here on Friday. The Chennai man admitted that having Jadeja at the other end helped him constructing his sixth Test hundred. He is an exceptionally good cricketer. I'm happy for him. Likewise, in so ma

IND vs BAN: Transformed Chepauk pitch offers a fever-dream for pacers

Sit back, close your eyes and recollect the great spells at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The first two reels will be that of two young spinners one bespectacled and other with a turban bamboozling the batters like magicians. Narendra Hirwani walked away with a 16-wicket match haul against West Indies here in 1986, while 15 wickets were added to Harbhajan Singh's tally in 2001 against Australia. So, it was quite natural to expect two modern day greats in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja ripping through Bangladesh batting line-up at Chepauk to keep up with the tradition. But pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep shared eight wickets among them to meddle with history and expectations. Such dominance by pacers was unknown at this venue since the late 70s. In 1979, a three-pronged pace attack comprising Kapil Dev, Karsan Ghavri and Dhiraj Parsana took 11 wickets among them in India's three-wicket win over the mighty West Indians. Since then, this has always been

IND vs BAN: Kohli bats for long, Bumrah goes whole hog in India's practice

Batting superstar Virat Kohli spent about 45 minutes in the nets and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah bowled full tilt as the Indian cricket team on Friday began its preparations for a two-Test series against Bangladesh. With the first Test against Bangladesh scheduled here from September 19, the entire squad, including skipper Rohit Sharma and Kohli, assembled at the MA Chidambaram Stadium for a closed door training session. This would be the first home assignment for new head coach Gautam Gambhir. New bowling coach, South African great Morne Morkel, and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar were also in attendance. The BCCI posted images of the first day of practice and wrote, "The countdown starts as Team India begin their preps for an exciting home season." The images showed the entire squad listening attentively to Gambhir, his support staff and skipper Rohit. "Virat was there for 45 minutes and Bumrah also bowled full throttle," a local source told PTI Virat has flown in directly fro
