DU third phase admission schedule out, upgrade window to open on Aug 31

The Delhi University on Friday released the schedule for the third phase of admissions to undergraduate courses for the 2024-25 session through performance-based programmes. Admissions in this phase will be offered through performance-based programmes and supernumerary quotas, including those for children/widows of armed forces personnel, extra-curricular activities, and sports. The university will also open an upgrade window for students from the previous two admission phases at 5 pm on August 31. The window will close at 4:59 pm on September 1. Students admitted to various courses in the previous two admission phases will have the option to upgrade to higher preferences during this window. They will also be allowed to re-order their college and course combinations by changing the order of preferences. The upgraded allocations will be announced on September 3. Universities will be allowed to offer admissions twice a year: UGC

Indian universities and higher education institutions will now be allowed to offer admissions twice a year on lines of foreign universities with the University Grants Commission giving a go ahead to the plan, UGC chief Jagadesh Kumar said. The two admission cycles will be July-August and January-February from the 2024-25 academic session. "If Indian universities can offer admission twice a year, it will benefit many students such as those who missed admission to a university in the July-August session due to a delay in the announcement of board results, health issues, or personal reasons," Kumar told PTI. "Biannual university admissions will help students maintain motivation since they do not have to wait one full year to be admitted if they miss admission in the current cycle. With biannual admissions in place, industries can also do their campus recruitment twice a year, improving employment opportunities for the graduates," he added. The UGC has made it mandatory for universities and higher education institutions to disclose on their websites details of fee structure and refund policy, hostel facilities, scholarships, rankings and accreditation, according to top officials. The move comes after the higher education regulator observed that the websites of several universities lack not only in providing basic minimum information but many of these are not functional and updated. Details of patents, foreign and industry collaborations, internal quality assurance cell, internal complaint committee, anti-ragging cell with helpline number, and equal opportunity cell, are also part of a checklist issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC). CUET should remain optional, says Association of Indian Universities

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) on Wednesday said it prefers the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to undergraduate programmes to remain an option for colleges and varsities of the country. Addressing a press conference here, AIU Secretary General Pankaj Mittal said CUET has not been made mandatory yet and AIU's stand is that it should remain voluntary for the universities or colleges willing to opt for the new system. "In our opinion, it is a good system. This was introduced to ease the problems of students, who will now appear only in one exam that is CUET. But I heard that the Government of India has recently said it is optional for a university," she said. Indian varsities eyeing offshore campuses: UGC chief M Jagadesh Kumar

University of Delhi (DU) on Friday issued guidelines to its colleges, asking them not to host any event without proper police permission and allow no one without registration. This development comes days after a ruckus rocked a fest in DU's Miranda House On October 14, several men were seen climbing the college walls and gates to witness an open Diwali fest on the campus and indulged in "cat-calling and sexist sloganeering". "In the light of an advisory received from the Police Department, the following guidelines are issued to all the Colleges and the Departments of Delhi University.
