GST officers have detected cases of ITC evasion of Rs 35,132 crore by 17,818 fake firms between April-October and arrested 69 persons, Parliament was informed on Monday.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said regular action is taken to detect fake firms through data analytics and other intelligence by the central and state authorities.
Also, a coordinated special drive was launched between August 16 and October 30 to detect fake firms.
"A total of 18,876 ITC fraud cases were detected involving 17,818 fake firms with suspected ITC evasion of Rs 35,132 crore during fiscal 2024-25 (April-October)," Chaudhary said.
This has saved Rs 6,484 crore of which Rs 5,422 crore by blocking of ITC and Rs 1,062 crore by way of recovery.
A total of 69 arrests have been made in the cases during the current fiscal till October.

BJP president JP Nadda on Thursday accused the Congress of trying to bring in "anarchy", as he condemned the charges levelled against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar by opposition leaders.
Speaking to reporters in Parliament complex, Nadda, who is also the leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, accused the Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and the Congress of not cooperating in functioning of the House.
Condemning the press conference held by opposition leaders on Thursday where they accused the Chairman of being "partisan", Nadda said, "Kharge ji is a senior leader, he should know the ruling of the Chairman is final and unquestionable. The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to examine a PIL raising allegations of sexual harassment in the "Indian film industry".
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela said in the absence of a complaint by an aggrieved party, it couldn't order a "roving and fishing" inquiry.
The petitioner, who relied on the Justice Hema Committee report with respect to instances of sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry, sought a direction to the National Commission for Women to inquire into the alleged violation of fundamental and human rights in the "Indian film industry" as well.
"We will examine when there is a complaint. Your petition is structured on the report of Justice Hema Committee which is being looked into by another court," the bench said, "we will not direct any roving and fishing inquiry".
The petitioner, Ajeesh Kalathil Gopi, alleged that sexual harassment was present in the "entire film industry" and he has even made complaint to .
