Last week, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) withdrew an office memorandum regarding extending the scope of Section 31D to internet transmissions. In 2016, through an office memorandum, the government decided to include Internet broadcasting under the purview of the Copyright Act. DPIIT has said that in light of the decision of the Division Bench of the High Court of Bombay in the matter of Tips Industries Ltd vs Wynk Music Ltd, the office memorandum issued by the department on September 5, 2016, is "hereby rescinded". Registration of properties in the Mumbai municipal region fell 10 per cent this month to 10,514 units on higher base effect, according to Knight Frank India. In April 2022, 11,743 properties were registered in Mumbai city, which is an area under the jurisdiction of Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC). "Mumbai city (area under BMC jurisdiction) saw property sales registration of 10,514 units in April 2023, adding over Rs 900 crore to the state exchequer, registering its highest ever revenue collection for the month of April in the last 10 years," Knight Frank said in a statement. The growth in revenues was on account of an increased stamp duty rate and surge in higher-value property transactions, the consultant said. The government has taken several steps for filing of applications and reducing the pendency related to intellectual property rights (IPRs), a senior official said on Wednesday. Sumita Dawra, Special Secretary in Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) also said innovation helps in promoting growth of a country. She urged the industry to fund the girl child for their education and higher studies and to go for Phd in other countries like Japan, Korea, the US and the UK. She also called for increasing collaboration between academia and industry to promote innovation. "The government has taken several steps to reduce pendency of IPR applications.
