IPL 2024: Pant's gymnastics background led to quick recovery say NCA staff

Rishabh Pant's mental strength and his background in gymnastics has helped the dashing wicketkeeper-batter to make an early recovery. Fifteen months after Pant was involved in a horrific car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in December 2022, the wicketkeeper-batter received a green signal to play in the IPL, starting March 22. "The mental strength and confidence inside him made us give our 100 per cent in doing the rehab part for him," Thulasi Yuvraj, a physiotherapist at the National Cricket Academy told 'bcci.tv' "The doctors believed that he may take up to two years. Once he came to NCA, it was like a progressive phase for him," he added. Pant had dabbled in gymnastics at a young age and that served as an asset in his recovery, according to Nishanta Bordoloi, the strength and conditioning coach at NCA, "One thing was that Rishabh has a background for gymnastic which was a very very big asset for us because there are a few things that come naturally to him," Bordoloi ...

IPL 2024: Ishan Kishan makes only 19 on return to competitive cricket

India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who faced criticism for skipping Ranji Trophy matches, made a low-key return to competitive cricket on Tuesday, scoring just 19 runs in the DY Patil T20 Cup here. Playing for RBI on the second day of the tournament, the 25-year-old Patna-born cricketer stumped Sumit Dhekale off seamer Sayan Mondal and later scored 19 off 12 balls with two boundaries and a six, as his team suffered an 89-run loss to Route Mobile Limited. Batting first, Route posted 192 for 8 in their 20 overs thanks to Aayush Vartan's 54 off 31 balls and Dhekale's 42 at the DY Patil University Ground. In response, RBI were shot out for just 103 in 16.3 overs. For Route, the best bowler was Badrey Alam (5/20). Kishan, who plays for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, last played for India during the T20 series against Australia at home in November last year. He then decided to take a break midway into India's Tour of South Africa and was ignored for the home rubber against Afghanistan

IPL 2024: RCA president Vaibhav Gehlot resigns after no-confidence motion

Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) President Vaibhav Gehlot resigned on Monday after a no-confidence motion was passed against him. Gehlot's resignation came after the Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) sealed the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, which is to host IPL matches from next month, as well as RCA office on Friday for non payment of dues. "The RCA office was hastily locked. Now efforts have been started to create an atmosphere of distrust in the RCA by targeting me. Due to this, there is a possibility of spoiling the positive atmosphere of cricket in the state," Gehlot said in a statement. "In such a situation, it is unbearable for me that there should be any crisis on IPL matches in the state and cricket suffers loss. IPL 2024: Pant on course for comeback, takes part in a practice game of DC

Rishabh Pant remains on course for a much-anticipated comeback in the IPL after taking part in a practice game organised by his franchise Delhi Capitals in Alur, Karnataka. Pant, who met with a horrific car accident in December 2022, has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy and is working hard to regain match fitness before the start of the IPL in the second half of March. The southpaw had also featured in an exhibition game last year. "The match was part of assessing his mobility basically. He has been batting at nets for a while and playing in a practice game was more like an extension of it," said a NCA source referring to the intra-squad game in Alur near Bengaluru. Earlier this month, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting had given a major update on Pant, saying the game changing cricketer was confident about his return in the IPL. However, Pant may not be ready for wicketkeeping duties in the competition, as suggested by Ponting at an event in ...

IPL 2024: Ishan Kishan skips Jharkhand Ranji game to play DY Patil T20

Ishan Kishan's absence from Ranji Trophy continued as the wicketkeeper-batter, who plays domestic cricket for Jharkhand, skipped the final round of matches that started on Friday, a move that might not go down well with BCCI especially after the diktat from secretary Jay Shah. Jharkhand are playing Rajasthan in Jamshedpur and even Deepak Chahar, who is currently training with the Chennai Super Kings, skipped the last round Ranji game. It is learnt that Kishan was asked by a senior member of the Indian team think-tank to play Ranji Trophy in order to make a comeback to the Test team but the flamboyant keeper-batter has reportedly said he was "working on certain technical aspects" of his game and was not ready for red-ball cricket. IPL 2024 performance gains significance for T20 World Cup selection: Moody

Veteran coach Tom Moody on Thursday felt the players' performance in highly-competitive leagues like IPL and ILT20 will have an added heft this time because of the impact it can have on the team selection ahead of the T20 World Cup. This edition of the marquee ICC event is scheduled to be held jointly in the West Indies and the USA in June and most of the teams, including India, have already finished their T20I assignments. The IPL (set to be played between March-May), along with any other T20 tournament, like the ILT20, is important for any player to be performing because every home team is looking at the performances of all their players in these tournaments because of the high-quality cricket in these (leagues), Moody said during a virtual media interaction facilitated by the Desert Vipers team of the ILT20. Moody then described how these outings could help players to secure a berth in the World Cup-bound squads. If you are scoring runs, taking wickets and showing consistency, i

Gulf carrier Etihad Airways on Thursday entered into an agreement with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to become its official sponsor. The partnership will cover CSK's events and platforms, while its players' jerseys will display the Etihad logo, the carrier said. The collaboration with the five-time champion of the Indian Premier League (IPL), comes close on the heels of Etihad roping in Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif as its brand ambassador, it said. Etihad started flying into India 20 years ago and has been investing here from day one, be it in deploying the best planes here or customising local palette to customers across the 10 cities where we are operating, Etihad Airways Chief Revenue Officer Arik De said. "So, the investment that we are announcing today is about CSK. Cricket is a huge part of this country and deepening that relationship for us is super important," De told PTI in an interaction.
