Cummins is set to remain SRH's captain, having led the team, alongside coach Daniel Vettori, to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
Gujarat Titans are set to retain their captain Shubman Gill alongside star spinner Rashid Khan and left-handed batter Sai Sudharsan ahead of the IPL mega auction. Uncapped hitters Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan are also expected to be retained by the franchise. "Shubman, Rashid and Sai will be retained by the franchise," said an IPL source. Gill, who is seen a future leader in the Indian cricket setup, had captained Titans for the first time earlier this year when the side finished eighth out of 10 teams. Titans had won the IPL on debut in 2022 before finishing runners-up the following year, both under Hardik Pandya's leadership. The decision to retain Rashid is also on expected lines. The 26-year old took 19 wickets in his maiden season with the team in 2022 before collecting 27 wickets in the following season. His form dipped this season when he took 10 wickets in 12 games at an average of 36.70. Sudharsan will also be retained ahead of the deadline on October 31 after a break

The BCCI has decided to scrap the contentious Impact Player rule for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. The Impact Player concept was introduced in SMAT couple of years ago and was later extended to the Indian Premier League. Kindly note that the BCCI has decided to do away with the provision of the Impact Player' for the ongoing season, the BCCI informed the state associations on Monday. The BCCI's decision to do away with the Impact Player comes shortly after it decided to retain the rule in the IPL till 2027. With record 250 plus total seen in the IPL this year, the Impact Player experiment was questioned by many including India skipper Rohit Sharma. However most of the IPL franchises were in favour of the rule. Rohit had felt that it was holding back the development of all-rounders. "I generally feel that it is going to hold back (development of allrounders) because eventually cricket is played by 11 players, not 12 players. I'm not a big fan of impact player. You are
In a noble gesture, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday handed over the fully restored Ittgalpura and Sadenahalli lakes to the local authorities, a long-term project the IPL outfit undertook under its Go Green Initiative. From here on, the local community will maintain the lakes for water security and combat the risk of water crisis in the surrounding regions. RCB's Lake Improvement Works Project, launched in October 2023, was designed to improve the drought resistance in highly water stressed areas in Bengaluru which lack access to natural source of water and are totally dependent on groundwater and surface water, said Rajesh Menon, Vice President and Head of RCB. For this project, RCB entered into an implementation partnership with the India Cares Foundation and Friends of Lakes. As part of the nearly 300-day project, over 50,000 tons of silt and sand were meticulously removed, with much of it repurposed by local farmers for plantation efforts. Furthering the project's .
India and Mumbai pacer Tushar Deshpande underwent an ankle surgery in London after missing the second round of the recently-concluded Duleep Trophy. The right-arm pacer informed about his surgery in a social media post on Tuesday. He was left out of Mumbai's 30-man probable list for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. This post comes as an update about my ankle surgery which was done yesterday and went very well, he said. It is a great relief as I was dealing with it for quite a long time. I am very grateful to my family, friends and all my fans for the well wishes, love and trust they have shown towards me. Here on, I start my journey to recover better than before and comeback stronger, added Deshpande, who made his international debut during India's tour of Zimbabwe in July. Deshpande claimed 15 wickets in five matches as Mumbai clinched their record-extending 43rd title win in the Ranji Trophy during the 2023-24 season. The defending champions will take on Baroda in an away game
The IPL Governing Council which was convened here on Saturday decided to continue with the hotly-debated Impact Player rule for the IPL 2025 season. The Impact Sub was introduced during the IPL 2023 and since then the rule has vertically divided the opinion. Even in the meeting the BCCI had with the team owners earlier this July, some franchises like Delhi Capitals were entirely in favour of retaining the Impact Player rule, primarily because it reduced the importance of the all-rounders. We did not really find the need to take away the Impact Player rule because it adds a new dimension to the game and gives team something to think. It's also quite exciting for the fans as well, a source informed PTI after the GC meeting. In fact, the nine highest totals in the IPL were made since the introduction of the Impact Player rule and the team often effortlessly crossed 220s and even 250s in the IPL 2024. We had a chat with the franchise owners recently. The impact player rule has its pro

Australian great Ricky Ponting was on Wednesday appointed head coach of Punjab Kings, replacing compatriot Trevor Bayliss in the under-performing IPL franchise. The former Australian captain has made the switch to Punjab Kings from Delhi Capitals, a team he was part of for seven years. "We are delighted to have Ricky on to guide and build our team for the next four seasons. His experience is crucial to help us develop a squad to deliver on-field success," franchise CEO Satish Menon said. An IPL source added that Ponting will take a call on the rest of the support staff. Under Ponting, Delhi Capitals became a force to reckon with though the elusive title never came. The team reached the final in 2020. He has also coached Mumbai Indians. Punjab too have never won the IPL since the league's inception in 2008 and the four co-owners will be hoping the World Cup-winning captain takes them all the way. Punjab's sole final appearance came way back in 2014 and they are one team which is o
SA20 League Commissioner and former South Africa captain Graeme Smith says the event is open to experimenting new things like the IPL's Impact Player rule but for now, he is focussed on keeping it simple for the fans. The much talked-about Impact Player rule, which allows teams to replace a player of choice at any point in the game, was introduced in the IPL in its gone-by season and had opinions divided on whether it was eroding the role of an all-rounder with teams opting for big-hitters on most occasions. Smith said SA20 intends to stick to simple and traditional cricket for now. "We have been less experimental compared to IPL and its Impact Player rule. While we continue to establish the tournament, we are ensuring that people understand the cricketing aspect of it," Smith told PTI ahead of season 3 scheduled to be held in January-February next year. "...we want the quality of cricket to stand out and fans to enjoy it as much as they can. We have tried to keep it simple as per

Dravid's tenure as India's head coach ended in June with the team winning the T20 World Cup for the second time. PTI had reported a few days ago that Dravid was set for his next move to RR. Dravid has coached Rajasthan Royals in 2014 and has held different roles with the India U-19 team as well as at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the Maharashtra government to justify its decision to reduce and waive the arrears from the organisers of IPL matches for police deployment, noting that it did not find any rationale behind the move. A division bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar said the government on the one hand kept increasing the water tax charges on slum dwellers but on the other hand, was waiving police cover fees from cash-rich organisers of cricket matches. What is this? What are you (government) doing? This is a fee not tax. You will keep on increasing the water tax from slum dwellers and then you waive off the fee for such cricket matches. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is the richest cricket association globally," the court said. The bench was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by activist Anil Galgali challenging the state's decision to reduce the rate for police protection provided to the Indian Premier
