The quake centered west of the Iranian city of Khoy and affected villages in the Turkish province of Van
State news agency IRNA said the earthquake was felt in Bushehr, site of the country's sole nuclear power plant
Rescue and relief teams were immediately radioed to be on-site
The epicentre of the tremor was located about 40 kilometres west of the capital
The latest tremors come just over two weeks after a 7.3 quake killed more than 400 people in western Kermanshah province in Iraq
