J-K Congress passes resolutions demanding statehood, assembly election

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Saturday passed two resolutions at its executive committee meeting demanding the restoration of statehood for the Union Territory and the assembly election. JKPCC also demanded an immediate filling of all vacant posts in all government and semi-government institutions in a fast-track mode and called for the constitution of a "high-level independent commission" for the investigation of recruitment scams. The resolutions were passed under the command of AICC In-charge, J-K Affairs, Rajni Patil. "Today we held the meeting of the political affairs committee in which we passed two resolutions - one political and another socio-economic. We are holding the meeting to debate the issues. The war against militancy in Jammu and Kashmir is not fully over and security forces may be suffering losses but will not back down from the fight, the union territory's Director General of Police R R Swain said here on Monday. SIA raids multiple locations in J-K, Delhi in terror funding case

The Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Investigation Agency (SIA) on Wednesday raided multiple locations in the union territory and Delhi in connection with a terror funding case, the agency said. "Continuing with its endeavour to dismantle terror support systems in J&K, the SIA Kashmir conducted searches at houses and offices at 22 locations in J&K and Delhi," the investigating agency said. These locations include 18 in Srinagar, one each in Anantnag and Pulwama, and two in Delhi. "The pre-dawn searches were carried out simultaneously by special teams of the SIA. During the search operation, incriminating material in the shape of bank documents, cash books, credit cards, debit cards, cheque books, invoices, mobile phones, SIM cards and passports etc., was seized, which will be analysed for further investigation," the SIA said. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary A K Mehta chaired a meeting Sunday to review the preparations for the fifth phase of the 'Back to Village' (B2V) programme which is scheduled to start in the Union Territory from November 7, officials said. Between 2019 and 2022, the Jammu and Kashmir administration held four phases of the B2V programme an initiative to take the administration to people's doorsteps across 4,483 panchayats to address genuine development-related and other needs of the public. JKRLM, Kudumbashree sign pact to support micro enterprise development prog

Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM) and Kudumbashree National Resources organisation have entered into an initial pact to support the micro-enterprise development programme in the Union Territory, an official said on Sunday. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed and exchanged through a video conference, in presence of Commissioner Secretary of the Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj, Mandeep Kaur, on Saturday, the official said. The urban local body and panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir are likely to be delayed as the administration is mulling changes to municipal acts and rules as well as a delimitation exercise to address skewed distribution of electors, officials said on Sunday. The Union Territory's administration is considering the delimitation exercise for municipal wards and panchayat segments in the backdrop of a delimitation exercise that was carried out by the Election Commission for assembly and parliamentary seats, said the officials, requesting anonymity. Five Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists were killed on Thursday as security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu records increase in terror activities post Article 370 abrogation

Post Article 370 abrogation in August 2019, the Jammu region has witnessed an increase in terror activities with certain security indicators, including recruitment of terrorists, showing an upward trend over the past nearly four years, official data revealed. The arrest of 231 terrorists and their overground workers (OGWs) between August 5, 2019 and June 16, 2023 in the stepped up counter-insurgency operations in the Jammu division was 71 per cent more than such arrests recorded between October 27, 2015 and August 4, 2019, according to the data. Landslide blocks Jammu-Srinagar national highway; Amarnath batch stopped

A massive landslide blocked the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district early Wednesday following which no fresh batch of Amarnath pilgrims was allowed to leave from Jammu, officials said. According to the traffic control room, the landslide hit the 270-km highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, near Maroog around 3 am. The restoration work is going on and is expected to be completed by 2 pm, following which the suspended traffic will be allowed from both sides - Nagrota in Jammu and Qazigund in Kashmir, an official of the department said.
