Forest fire along LoC in J-K triggers landmine explosions in Poonch

A forest fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district triggered explosions in several landmines on Friday night, official sources said. The fire occurred this evening in Balnoi and Krishnagati sectors of the district, prompting army, locals and forest officials to launch an operation to contain it, they said.

Republic Day 2024: J-K govt announces awards for 36 individuals of UT

Thirty-six people, including para archer and Arjuna Awardee Sheetal Devi, were selected for government awards in Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of Republic Day. Late Head Constable Abdul Majeed has been awarded posthumously in the category of award for achievements in the field of bravery that carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation to the awardee, according to an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) Commissioner-Secretary Sanjeev Verma. CSIR showcases purple revolution, electric tractor on Republic Day tableau

The purple revolution unfolding in the lavender fields of Bhaderwah in Jammu and Kashmir found a proud place on the tableau of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on Friday in the Republic Day parade. The purple revolution showcases India's scientific prowess and the industrious spirit of the farmers of Bhaderwah and adjoining regions who have turned entrepreneurs over the past few years, a senior CSIR official said. The enchanting tableau, decked with lavender flowers, narrates the story of development of an elite variety of lavender at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine at Jammu, its cultivation, and its processing to produce essential oils, perfumes and incense sticks. Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh has often described the purple revolution as an example of taking lavender from lab-to-market and causing a new culture of agri-startups in India to bloom. J-K's tableau showcases handicraft, saffron cultivation at Bharat Parv 2024

The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has presented its tableau in 'Bharat Parv 2024' at Red Fort in New Delhi, encapsulating its developmental leaps and rich cultural tapestry with a focus on its handicraft industry and saffron cultivation. The nine-day Bharat Parv, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, is being organised by the Ministry of Tourism from January 23-31. As part of the event, seven Republic Day tableaux showcasing different cultural tropes from Karnataka, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir are on display at the fort's lawns. Security personnel killed, 2 injured in landmine blast in J-K's Rajouri

A security personnel was killed and another two suffered injuries in a landmine blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Thursday, official sources said. The troops were patrolling the forward area in Nowshera sector when the explosion occurred, the sources said. The three security personnel were admitted to a hospital, they said, adding one of them succumbed to injuries. In another landmine blast, a goat was injured in Poonch district's Mendhar sector, they said.

BSF carries out search op after reports of suspicious tunnel in J-K's Samba

The Border Security Force (BSF) troops on Thursday carried out a search operation following reports of a suspicious tunnel near the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district, but found nothing, officials said. Based on inputs, the operation took place in Jaraie village of Lalacheck border area, the officials said. After a few hours of digging near a deep pit, no tunnel was discovered, they said. A senior BSF officer dismissed the rumors, and told PTI, "There is no tunnel. It is a pit. There is nothing to worry about." Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba, Benam Tosh, also refuted claims of tunnels in the area, clarifying that it is just a hole. "All agencies have carried out thorough checking, and no tunnel was found," he said. 6,000 security personnel died in militancy-related incidents in J&K: DGP

Jammu and Kashmir's Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain on Tuesday said that about 6,000 security personnel have died in the line of duty in militancy-related incidents, of which over 1,600 of them are from the J&K Police. This shows the J&K Police's commitment to protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the country, Sawin said. BSF DG reviews security, operational preparedness of troops in Jammu

Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) Nitin Agrawal on Wednesday reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness of the troops guarding the border with Pakistan on the Jammu frontier, officials said. Agrawal, who visited areas located close to the International Border (IB), also called on Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the Raj Bhavan here and briefed him about the security situation along the border. The DG reviewed the security situation and the operational preparedness of the troops with senior BSF officials. Agrawal is currently on a visit to the Jammu region. J-K admin imposes night curfew along international border in Samba

Night curfew has been imposed along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district to ensure better area domination by BSF troops and to foil any nefarious activities close to the borderline, according to an official order. The step was taken to prevent cross-border infiltration and smuggling of weapons through drones in the extreme foggy weather conditions prevailing along the Indo-Pak border line, said the order issued by District Magistrate Abhishek Sharma on Sunday. According to the order, the movement of civilians has been stopped from from 9 pm to 6 am in one kilometre-long strip from the IB in Samba district. Amit Shah to visit Jammu on Jan 9, to take part in development programmes

Union Home Minister will visit Jammu on Tuesday during which he will attend a number of development-related programmes and flag off an e-bus service in the city, officials said. This will be Shah's first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after terrorists ambushed two army vehicles, killing five soldiers and injuring two others at Poonch on December 21. Encounter breaks out between security forces, terrorists in J&K's Shopian

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Friday, police said. Acting on specific information about the presence of terrorists in the Chotigam area of the south Kashmir district, the security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation there early in the morning, a police official said. Suspicious object detected, destroyed on Srinagar-Baramulla road in J-K

Security forces averted a major tragedy on Wednesday with the timely detection of an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists along the Srinagar-Baramulla highway in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. Traffic on Srinagar-Baramulla road was suspended temporarily after a gas cylinder was detected by the roadside at Lawaypora on the busy highway during routine patrolling by security forces in the morning, they said. A bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot which destroyed the suspected IED through a controlled explosion without causing any damage, they said. The traffic has been restored on the road.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday announced compensation and jobs to the kin of the three civilians who were found dead near the site of an anti-terrorist operation in Poonch district.
