Union minister Jitendra Singh's brother, BJP MLA Devender Rana dies

Senior BJP leader and Nagrota MLA Devender Singh Rana, brother of Union minister Jitendra Singh, died on Thursday at a private hospital in Haryana's Faridabad. He was 59. According to a senior BJP leader, Rana was undergoing treatment at the hospital. He is survived by his wife, Gunjan Rana, their daughters Devyani and Ketki, and son Adhiraj Singh. As the news of Rana's death spread, hundreds of people, including political leaders, gathered at his residence in the Gandhinagar area of Jammu. Asserting that the majority community in Kashmir will one day regret the "exodus" of Kashmiri Pandits, Union minister Jitendra Singh on Thursday said Kashmir is incomplete without their presence. Singh said that significant positive changes have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370, and that deep down, common people, including Kashmir Muslims, are happy about it. Army steps up surveillance, patrolling along LoC in Rajouri, Poonch

In the wake of a string of terror attacks, the Indian Army, armed with advanced surveillance equipment and weapons, has intensified vigilance and patrolling in the dense forest areas of Jammu and Kashmir's twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, officials said Seven attacks have occurred just in the past two weeks, resulting in 13 fatalities, including two soldiers. Two more terrorists killed in Jammu encounter following attack on army

A terrorist hiding in a village in the Akhnoor sector of the Jammu region was killed during a fresh gunfight that erupted on Tuesday morning as security forces launched their final assault against militants holed up in the area, officials said. So far, two terrorists have been killed and efforts are on to neutralize their third associate still hiding in the forest area near the Assan temple in Jogwan village, they said. One of the three terrorists who fired at an army ambulance that was part of a convoy moving near the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday morning was killed by the evening in an operation launched by the special forces and NSG commandos. Three to four militants are believed to have carried out the deadly attack on an Army convoy in the Gulmarg sector of Jammu and Kashmir that left four people, including two soldiers, dead, a senior police official said on Saturday. The search operation, which entered the second day, was halted at the last light on Friday and was resumed on Saturday morning, the official said. "According to the evidence we got from there, 3-4 militants were involved in the attack," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, Mohammad Zaid Malik told reporters in the north Kashmir district. Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General M V Suchindra Kumar on Friday said the army has identified 135 areas where it seeks technological and industrial collaboration to fill operational gaps, with 93 research and development projects currently at various stages. Joint search ops by BSF, police launched in border areas of J-K's Samba

The BSF and police on Friday launched a search operation to monitor suspicious activities in border areas of Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district, officials said. The search operation comes in the backdrop of spate of terror attacks in the Kashmir valley. Officials said the joint search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and police is being conducted in the border areas of the Ramgarh sector with security forces scanning several sensitive locations, including some forest belts along the International Border. The purpose of this operation is to monitor suspicious activities in border areas and strengthen security, they said. Meanwhile, the district magistrate of Samba, has ordered a complete ban on the sale or use of all kinds of firecrackers within two km of the International Border in Samba district. This order shall come into effect immediately and will remain in force for a period of two months from the date of issuance, unless withdrawn or rescinded earlier, they said.

Security forces on Friday launched a massive search operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gulmarg sector of Jammu and Kashmir, following the terror attack in the area that left four people, including two soldiers, dead, officials said.
