India's space economy to reach $40 bn by 2040: Minister Jitendra Singh

There were only four space startups in India in 2014 and that number has increased to more than 150 in 2023, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said here Monday, noting that currently, the country's space economy is valued at USD 8 billion and estimated to reach USD 40 billion by 2040. Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh on Monday said employment has increased in the last nine years of the Modi government, during which nine lakh jobs were given to the country's youth. Addressing Rozgar Mela here, he said one of the biggest achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure was that a large number of government jobs have been provided. "Not only the jobs have been generated, but you (prime minister) have generated awareness among the youth that employment is not only (about) government jobs," Singh said, addressing the event presided over by Modi. India taking lead in using space tech to boost development: Jitendra Singh

Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh asserted on Monday that India has taken a quantum leap in space technology under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and has taken the lead in using it for aiding infrastructure and development works as well. Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday stressed on faster extradition of fugitive economic offenders and recovery of their assets, besides achieving a "corruption-free world" during the crucial G20 anti-graft ministerial meeting here. He said fugitive economic offenders pose a significant challenge to both national and international law enforcement as they are able to exploit gaps and differences between legal and financial systems of countries to evade justice. "Fugitive economic offenders commit grave economic crimes in their home country and flee to another country to avoid arrest, prosecution or the execution of their sentence," said Singh, the Union Minister of State for Personnel. India seeks consensus in G20 for faster extradition of economic offenders

India is seeking a consensus among G20 nations against fugitive economic offenders to ensure their faster extradition and asset recovery, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said here on Friday. Ahead of the crucial G20 anti-corruption ministerial meeting in Kolkata on Saturday, he said economic offences have been a problem faced by many, especially when offenders flee the country's jurisdiction. 'No proposal under deliberation to change retirement age of govt employees'

Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday said there is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of central government employees. In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Singh said 122 government officers have been given compulsory retirement in the last three years under different provisions of service rules. "As per the updated information/data available on the probity portal (as on 30.06.2023) as provided by different ministries/departments/cadre controlling authorities (CCAs), provisions of Fundamental Rules (FR)-56(j)/similar provisions have been invoked against a total of 122 officers during the last three years (2020-2023), including the current year," the Minister of State for Personnel said. Stronger roads from steel waste along border in Arunachal: Jitendra Singh

India is using steel slag, the waste generated during steel production, to build stronger and more durable roads along the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh, Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said on Monday. The technology to use steel slag for road construction was developed by CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) which is set to address the problem of slag generated by steel plants. Singh, who visited the CSIR-CRRI here, said that the steel slag roads not only cost about 30 per cent cheaper than conventional paving but were also more durable and resistant to vagaries of weather. The Union minister said that in June last year, Surat in Gujarat became the first city in the country to get a processed steel slag road built as part of a joint-venture project by the CSIR-CRRI, Union Ministry of Steel, NITI Aayog, and Arcelor-Mittal Nippon Steel at Hazira.
