More than 5.59 lakh job aspirants are slated to appear in an examination for 4,002 vacancies of police constables in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday. The test is scheduled to commence across the Union Territory from Sunday. A group of youngsters, meanwhile, staged a demonstration here, reiterating their demand for age relaxation and rescheduling of the examination. "A total of 5,59,135 candidates are scheduled to appear in the exams for 4,002 posts of constables (home department) to be held on December 1, December 8 and December 22," Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) Chairperson Indu Kanwal Chib said at a meeting here. The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday said that 85,152 posts of headmasters and assistant teachers are vacant in the state, but taking shiksha mitras and instructors into account, the student-teacher ratio is complete and there is no problem in teaching. Himachal Pradesh Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan on Monday said vacant government posts in tribal areas, especially in the education department, would be filled on priority to ensure that education is not hampered for the want of teachers. Presiding over a meeting of the cabinet subcommittee on employment opportunities here, he said that around 70,000 posts of different categories are lying vacant in various departments. Of these, 16,000 posts are vacant in the education department and the government is looking forward to filling up these posts at the earliest, he said. The state has two tribal districts -- Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti. There are also tribal areas in Chamba and Sirmaur districts. The Ministry of Labour and Employment is implementing the National Career Service (NCS) Project as a Mission Mode Project for the transformation of the National Employment Service to provide a variety of employment-related services like job matching, career counselling, vocational guidance, information on skill development courses, internships etc. The services under NCS are available online, which was dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister in 2015. NCS portal has registered the highest vacancies during 2022-23 since its launch in July 2015, a labour ministry statement said. Around 35.7 lakh vacancies have been reported by employers on NCS during 2022-23 compared to around 13 lakh vacancies in 2021-22.
