The Nasa's latest mission aims to investigate Europa's surface to explore the potential for life beneath the icy crust of Jupiter's moon
NASA's Europa Clipper mission passed a mission planning milestone, known as Key Decision Point E, on Monday, implying the mission is approved for launch around Thursday, Oct. 10
NASA on Monday approved next month's launch to Jupiter's moon Europa after reviewing the spacecraft's ability to withstand the intense radiation there. Questions about the reliability of the transistors on the Europa Clipper spacecraft arose earlier this year after similar problems cropped up elsewhere. With the tight launch window looming, NASA rushed to conduct tests to verify that the electronic parts could survive the $5 billion mission to determine whether the suspected ocean beneath Europa's icy crust might be suitable for life. Liftoff remains scheduled for Oct. 10 aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. NASA has three weeks to launch the spacecraft before standing down for more than a year to await another proper planetary alignment; the spacecraft needs to swing past Mars and then Earth for gravity assists. Project manager Jordan Evans said the transistors located in circuits across the entire spacecraft are expected to degrade when Europa Clipper is exposed to the worst of

The world is obsessing over the June 3 planet parade', touted as a rare phenomenon. It is being said that only on June 3 planets will be visible to the naked eye. But Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru has released a series of posts debunking many theories being circulated via social media. "For one, it is not exclusively on June 3. These planets can be seen aligned over many days in the coming week," said Niruj Mohan Ramanujam, head, IIA's SCOPE section. According to him, on the days before June 3, Jupiter is closer to the Sun and after June 3, Mercury gets closer to the sun, hence June 3 is optimal. "You can go out before sunrise every day in the coming week and try and spot as many planets as you can," added Ramanujam. According to IIA's social media posts, in the coming week, people can see yellowish Saturn clearly, high up in the Eastern morning sky, with the reddish Mars halfway below. The rest of the planets that are supposed to be visible during the planet .

A European spacecraft rocketed away Friday on a decadelong quest to explore Jupiter and three of its icy moons that could have buried oceans. The journey began with a morning liftoff by Europe's Ariane rocket from French Guiana in South America. It will take the robotic explorer, dubbed Juice, eight years to reach Jupiter, where it will scope out not only the solar system's biggest planet but also Europa, Callisto and Ganymede. The three ice-encrusted moons are believed to harbour underground oceans, where sea life could exist. Then in perhaps the most impressive feat of all, Juice will attempt to go into orbit around Ganymede: No spacecraft has ever orbited a moon other than our own. With so many moons, at last count 95 astronomers consider Jupiter a mini solar system of its own, with missions like Juice long overdue. We are not going to detect life with Juice, stressed the European Space Agency's project scientist, Olivier Witasse. But learning more about the moons and their
