Ahead of the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday denied having differences with state Congress president Kamal Nath and claimed such reports were a propaganda of the ruling BJP. Singh in a statement noted several newspapers have claimed that he cancelled his visits to Jhabua and Khategaon due to his displeasure. The factionalism in the BJP is at its peak these days and to cover it up they are sponsoring and spreading false news of rift among Congress leaders, especially between Kamal Nath and me. Every leader of the Congress is united and determined to defeat the BJP, Singh said in a statement. The Rajya Sabha member further said he cancelled his Jhabua and Khategaon visits as the AICC general secretary wanted to discuss some issues of organisational and electoral importance. There is "no factionalism" in the Congress, he asserted. However, state BJP secretary Rajneesh Agrawal said differences between Nath and Singh were out in the open,

In the binary politics of Madhya Pradesh dominated by the BJP and Congress, the 'Muslim vote factor' may be insignificant unlike Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, but the minority vote may prove crucial in at least 22 seats in the event of a neck-and-neck contest in the next month's assembly polls. According to Mohammed Mahir, convenor of Madhya Pradesh Muslim Vikas Parishad who belongs to Congress, the Grand Old Party's vote share in the 2018 assembly polls went up by least 3-4 per cent enabling it to narrowly surge ahead of the BJP. He said MP Congress chief Kamal Nath had said in 2018 that the party could form a government if 90 per cent of minority votes are polled in the party's favour. "On Nath's appeal, minority votes were polled for Congress and the result was 10-12 more seats being added to the party' kitty which the party had failed to win in 2008 and 2013," Mahir claimed. Notably, the vote share of the BJP (41.02 per cent) was slightly higher than the Congress (40.89 per cent) in

The Congress has announced its second list of 85 candidates for the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls. With this list issued late Thursday night, the party has declared all but one candidates for elections to the 230-member assembly scheduled for November 17. The Congress has not yet declared its candidate from Amla seat in Betul district from where a woman deputy collector Nisha Bangre is seeking a ticket but the ruling BJP government has not yet accepted her resignation from the services and the matter at present is pending in the court, the party sources said. Earlier the party had declared candidates for 144 seats but changed candidature in three seats while issuing the second list. Therefore, the total number of candidates announced in the first list stands at 141, a Congress leader said. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition Congress have repeated their 2018 poll candidates in Rau constituency of Indore district for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly elections. The Congress has fielded its sitting MLA and former cabinet minister Jitu Patwari (49) for the fourth time, while the BJP has reposed faith for the second time in its leader Madhu Verma (71), who lost to Patwari in the 2018 poll by a thin margin of 5,703 votes. The Rau Assembly segment, spread over urban and rural parts of Indore, has 3.56 lakh voters, including a sizeable number of farmers. Many of the cultivators have been unhappy with the BJP government's process of acquisition of agricultural land for a proposed economic corridor project. In 2008, Patwari lost this assembly segment to BJP's Jitu Jirati. But in 2013, Patwari won the seat and continued the winning streak in 2018. BJP candidate Verma told PTI that despite being a cabinet minister in the previous Kamal Nath-led Congress ...
