Cong manifesto for Karnataka polls triggers war of words in Madhya Pradesh

The promise to ban the Bajrang Dal by the Congress in its manifesto for the Karnataka Assembly polls has triggered a war of words in Madhya Pradesh, with the state home minister questioning the Hanuman bhakti (devotion to Hanuman) of Kamal Nath, the Congress state chief. In a letter to Nath on Wednesday, Home Minister Narottam Mishra said, The Congress may go to any extent for the politics of appeasement. In his counter, Nath said that even the Supreme Court is saying that action should be taken against those spreading hatred. The Congress, in its election manifesto for the May 10 Karnataka polls, said it will take decisive action as per law including imposing a ban on organisations like Bajrang Dal and PFI and alleged that they were promoting enmity among communities. Bajrang Dal is a right-wing Hindu outfit and has often courted controversies over vigilante action. Bajrang is another name for Lord Hanuman and the outfit's insignia carries the picture of the deity. I have written

Congress to select candidates by consulting local leaders in MP: Kamal Nath

Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath on Saturday said the party will give tickets for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state after holding discussions with local leaders and workers. "Pressure and recommendation" will not work for securing party nominations, he said, speaking to reporters at Seoni Malwa in Narmadapuram district. Elections are due in the state this year. Taking a swipe at the BJP government in the state, he said government employees, Anganwadi workers, doctors, health workers, guest teachers and others are on strike. All sections of society are worried about their future and true Congress leaders can not go against the wishes of the people, Nath said, adding, There is no possibility of betrayal by leaders like earlier. The previous Congress government led by Nath, which came to power in December 2018 after 15 years of Bharatiya Janata Party rule, collapsed in March 2020 after 22 MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia rebelled. Need Supreme Court-monitored probe into Atiq's killing, says Kamal Nath

Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath on Sunday demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the gunning down of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh a day earlier. Ahmad and Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction late Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a mandatory check-up. "What kind of politics is taking place in Uttar Pradesh and in the country? One day someone is killed and the next day someone else. It is for the society to think where UP and the country is headed. The Supreme Court should take notice of it and order an inquiry," Nath said. Hitting back at Nath, MP Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Narendra Saluja said Nath should have instead expressed grief over those who had been killed by Atiq Ahmad. "Atiq was facing more than 100 criminal cases. It is shameful Nath is demanding

CM Chouhan, Kamal Nath engage in 'question war' on poll promises

With the Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh due this year-end, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state Congress president Kamal Nath have been engaged in a bitter 'question war' since a fortnight, seeking to know from each other about the "unfulfilled" poll promises. The opposition Congress, which formed government in the state in December 2018 but lost power in March 2020, has started making a slew of promises, including farm loan waiver and implementation of the old pension scheme. However, CM Chouhan, who has been posing questions to the opposition party almost everyday, recently told mediapersons that, The Congress has started making false promises again. It was in power for 15 months and had issued a 973-point manifesto." "They have not fulfilled a single promise. At that time, the Bharatiya Janata Party was in opposition. Now, we are asking questions based on those false promises. We are also asking questions as the Congress has started coming up with false promises again

Will increase old age pension to Rs 1k a month if elected in MP: Kamal Nath

Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath on Monday said his party would increase old age pension to Rs 1,000 per month if it came to power in the Assembly polls likely to be held at the end of next year. He had earlier promised to bring back the old pension scheme (OPS) and farm loan waiver. "We increased the old age pension from Rs 300 to Rs 600 and were going to take it further to Rs 1000. On December 12, he said the Congress, if elected to power, will bring back OPS, which is a major demand of government employees. In MP, all government employees appointed on or after January 1, 2005 are covered under the new pension scheme (NPS). On December 18, he had tweeted the party's farm loan waiver scheme, w
