Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) president and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was on Saturday recognised as the Leader of Opposition in the assembly. The announcement was made by Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar in the House. "I recognised Bharat Rashtra Samiti Legislature Party as the main opposition party since it is the second-largest party with the strength of 39 members in the third Telangana Legislative Assembly and its leader Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao, MLA, is recognised as the Leader of Opposition in the third Telangana Legislative Assembly," the Speaker said. Former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was on Saturday elected as the leader of the BRS Legislature Party in the new Assembly. The election was announced at a meeting of the newly-elected BRS MLAs here. Telangana's chief minister-elect Revanth Reddy met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge here on Wednesday, a day after he was elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party. Reddy, who has been elected from the Kodangal Assembly seat, is slated to take oath as chief minister in Hyderabad on Thursday. BJP's K Venkata Ramana Reddy emerged as a giant killer by defeating Chief Minister and BRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao and Telangana PCC chief Revanth Reddy in Kamareddy assembly constituency on Sunday. He vanquished his nearest rival KCR by a margin of 6,741 votes. Speaking to media, Venkata Ramana Reddy said Kamareddy got recognition as big leaders contested in the segment. Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday accepted the resignation of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and urged him to continue in office till the formation of the new government. Rao's resignation letter was received, and the Governor accepted it, a press communique from Raj Bhavan said. The Governor requested Rao to continue in office till the formation of the new government, it said. Rao's son and BRS working president K T Rama Rao earlier said the chief minister had sent his resignation to the Governor following BRS' defeat in the assembly election.
