Vice President Kamala Harris vowed Saturday that, if elected, she'd eliminate federal taxes on tips paid to restaurant workers and scores of other service employees, echoing a pledge that her opponent in November, Donald Trump, has made in a rare moment of political overlap from both sides. Harris made the announcement at a rally on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where the economy relies heavily on the hotel, restaurant and entertainment industries. Trump made a similar promise at his own rally in the city in June though neither he nor Harris are likely to be able to fully do that without actions from Congress. It is my promise to everyone here, when I am president, we will continue our fight for working families, Harris said, pledging to raise the minimum wage and eliminate tips for service and hospitality workers. The Democratic presidential nominee and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, came to Nevada as the final stop of a battleground blitz in which
Three people were fatally shot and a fourth person was critically wounded in an attack on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus, police said. The suspected shooter also was found dead. The attack just before noon on Wednesday sent police swarming onto the campus, which is just a couple of miles from the world-famous Las Vegas Strip while students barricaded themselves in classrooms. Authorities gave the all-clear about 40 minutes after the first report of an active shooter. Police haven't released the identity of the shooter or the motive for the attack. The shootings took place in a city still scarred by an October 2017 attack by a gunman at the Mandalay Bay casino that killed 60 people and wounded hundreds more. Police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that three people were killed and a fourth person was in critical condition at a hospital. Authorities didn't immediately provide additional information but planned to give further updates at a news conference scheduled fo
Racing in Texas and then Mexico City and then Brazil, followed by a quick trip back to the United Kingdom before finally arriving in Las Vegas, Formula One driver Alex Albon could not stop thinking about his golf game. He felt up to speed on the Las Vegas street circuit after turning about 500 laps on a simulator. His golf game? Not as sharp. Albon was among the four drivers who competed in The Netflix Cup," a made-for-TV golf match that paired F1 drivers with golfers from Full Swing. The streaming giant's first foray into live sports coverage kicked off a week of parties and concerts ahead of Saturday night's race down the Las Vegas Strip. We've had three races, been in Mexico, Brazil and the United States, and all I was worried about was this match, said Albon, who upon landing in Las Vegas played a round with a golf coach and his girlfriend, Lily Muni, a player on the LPGA Tour. The match at Wynn Golf Club was won by Justin Thomas and partner Carlos Sainz of Ferrari, who prompt

An attacker with a large kitchen knife killed two people and wounded six others in stabbings along the Las Vegas Strip before being arrested Thursday, police said. Three people were hospitalized in critical condition and another three were in stable condition, according to Las Vegas police who said they began receiving 911 calls about the stabbings around 11:40 am on the north end of the Strip. Police didn't immediately release any information on the suspect or a possible motive. Witnesses told Las Vegas TV stations that the attacker struck in multiple locations, and some of the victims appeared to be showgirls or street performers who take pictures with tourists on the Strip. The suspect told a woman that he was a chef who wanted to take a picture with some of the showgirls with his knife, but he started stabbing people when the group declined the man's offer, the woman told KTNV. Pierre Fandrich told KTNV that he did not see the stabbing suspect as he was walking along the Strip
A Las Vegas-area elected public official was arrested Wednesday as the suspect in the fatal stabbing of a veteran newspaper reporter whose investigations of the official's work preceded his primary loss in June. Clark County Public Administrator Robert Rob Telles, a Democrat, was taken into custody at his home by police SWAT officers hours after investigators served a search warrant and confiscated vehicles in the criminal probe of the killing of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German, Sheriff Joe Lombardo told the newspaper. Telles, 45, had been a focus of German's reporting about turmoil including complaints of administrative bullying, favouritism and Telles' relationship with a subordinate staffer in the county office that handles property of people who die without a will or family contacts. The newspaper's executive editor, Glenn Cook, said in a statement that the arrest of Robert Telles is at once an enormous relief and an outrage for the Review-Journal newsroom. We are
