Around 400,000 cases disposed of at National Lok Adalat in Haryana

Around 4 lakh cases, including those of matrimonial disputes and motor accident claims, were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat held on Saturday in Haryana. Under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA) organised the 3rd National Lok Adalat. The National Lok Adalat was organised in all 22 districts and 34 sub-divisions of Haryana through the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) by way of constituting 167 benches for both pre-litigation and pending court cases, according to an official statement. More than 4.50 lakh cases were referred to the Lok Adalat benches for settlement by way of mutual consent. The purpose of holding National Lok Adalat is to provide a platform for litigants to settle their disputes amicably without any delay, while the award of Lok Adalat is final and there is a provision for refund of court fees in case of settlement in Lok Adalat. Seven SC benches to take up Lok Adalat matters till Friday: CJI Chandrachud

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Monday said the first seven benches of the Supreme Court will hear cases listed for amicable resolution in a special Lok Adalat at 2 pm from today till Friday. The top court is holding the special Lok Adalat till August 3 in an effort to reduce the pendency of cases. "From today till Friday, we will have the Supreme Court Lok Adalat and the first seven benches will sit for it. If lawyers have cases which can go before the Lok Adalat, please bring them," the CJI said at the outset of the day's proceedings on Monday. The CJI had earlier urged citizens who have pending cases before the Supreme Court to take part in the special Lok Adalat to get their disputes resolved amicably and speedily. Take part in special Lok Adalat in SC for speedy resolution of cases: CJI

Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Friday urged citizens, who have pending cases before the Supreme Court, to take part in the special Lok Adalat from July 29 to August 3 to get their disputes resolved amicably and speedily. In a bid to lessen the pendency of cases in the top court, the special Lok Adalat will be organised in the 75th year of the establishment of the apex court, which came into existence on January 26, 1950 with the coming into force of the Constitution. 75,250 cases settled at National Lok Adalat across Jammu & Kashmir

A total of 75,250 cases were settled at the day-long National Lok Adalat across Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, an official spokesperson said. Over Rs 45 crore was awarded as compensation or settlement amount in civil, criminal, labour disputes, electricity and water bills cases, land acquisition, family matters, cheque dishonour, and bank recovery cases during the Lok Adalat, the spokesperson said. He said, under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority organised the first National Lok Adalat of 2023. Quoting the information received from different legal services institutions, the spokesperson said a total of 88,723 cases were taken up by 142 benches at various courts across the Union territory. Over 500 electricity theft cases settled during special Lok Adalat in Delhi

More than 500 electricity theft cases were settled during a special Lok Adalat, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited said here on Wednesday. The Lok Adalat was organised by Tata Power-DDL in association with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) in Sector 3, Rohini on September 25. "Tata Power-DDL was able to settle 525 electricity theft cases (i.e. issues related to meter tampering, direct theft, and disconnections) and pending matters listed in various courts/forums in the Lok Adalat. The scheme was offered to all categories of consumers with theft dues, the company said in a statement. This Lok Adalat session saw an overwhelming response from consumers, the company further said.
