Delhi polls: BJP's 2nd list out, Kapil Mishra to contest from Karawal Nagar

The BJP on Saturday released its second list of 29 candidates for the Delhi Assembly polls, fielding Kapil Mishra, a former AAP leader now identified with hardline Hindutva politics, from Karawal Nagar. It has fielded Harish Khurana, son of former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana, from the Moti Nagar constituency. With the second list, the party has so far named candidates for 58 seats for the elections to the 70-member Delhi Assembly. The elections are scheduled to be held on February 5 and the votes will be counted on February 8.

The BJP has become the largest political party of the world because of its leaders like former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana who never wavered from their ideology and commitment towards people, party chief JP Nadda said on Saturday. Nadda asked party leaders and workers to learn from Khurana's life, and said he was involved in political struggles and also provided solutions to different issues. "BJP which is now the world's largest political party was founded by such stalwarts such as Khurana who never wavered from their ideology and showed a deep commitment towards people," he said delivering the first Madan Lal Khurana Memorial Lecture. The BJP chief added that a true tribute to Khurana would be to seek inspiration from him as he was never associated with gaining power, and was committed to ideology and serving people. BJP leader and former Delhi CM Madan Lal Khurana passes away at 82

Former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana passed away here Saturday after a prolonged illness, his family said. Khurana, who was 82, is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters. His another son had died last month. A veteran of the BJP, Khurana was the chief minister of Delhi from 1993 to 1996 and was appointed the governor of Rajasthan in 2004. "He breathed his last at around 11 pm at his Kirti Nagar residence here," his son Harish Khurana told PTI. He said Khurana was suffering from a chest infection and fever from last few days and was feeling breathless since Saturday morning, he said. He had suffered a brain haemorrhage about five years ago and was ailing since then. His last rites would be held tomorrow, his family said.
