Police have launched a probe after a bust of Mahatma Gandhi was found to be damaged in Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district, an official said on Wednesday. The bust on the premises of the government college in Khilchipur town was vandalised on Tuesday, an official said. Some unidentified individuals damaged the bust, said Khilchipur police station in-charge Raghuveen Singh Dhakad, quoting the college principal. The police team reached the spot and launched a probe, he said. Footage of CCTV cameras installed on the college campus is being examined to identify the miscreants, he said.

Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said the fire at the renowned Mahakal Temple in Ujjain on Monday morning may have been caused by chemicals in 'gulal', a coloured powder used in rituals and during Holi. The blaze, which took place in the 'garbha griha' (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple at 5:50am, left 14 priests and 'sevaks' (assistants) injured, eight of whom were shifted to the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences in Indore. "It seems all the injured at SAIMS are out of danger, But they will be under observation for the next 24 hours," Vijayvargiya told reporters after visiting the health facility. "Every year, Holi is celebrated in Mahakaleshwar Temple by throwing gulal. Maybe, some chemical in the gulal caused the fire. However, we are not going to stop the tradition of playing Holi with Lord Bholenath in Mahakaleshwar Temple," he said. It will be ensured that no chemical laced gulal is used next time, he added. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the Mahakal Temple fire incident was very painful and wished those injured a speedy recovery.A fire broke out in the 'garbha griha' (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple at 5:50am, injuring 14 priests and 'sevaks' (assistants), officials said. In message on social media platform X, the PM said, "The accident that happened in Mahakal temple of Ujjain is very painful. I wish for the speedy recovery of all the devotees injured in the accident. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in every possible help to the victims." A team of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Friday began a survey of the controversial Bhojshala/Kamal Maula Mosque complex situated in the tribal dominated Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. The ASI team, comprising more than a dozen members, reached the complex Friday morning. It was accompanied by senior local police and district administration officials. The Madhya Pradesh High Court, on March 11, directed ASI to carry out within six weeks a 'scientific survey' of the Bhojshala complex, a medieval-era monument that Hindus believe is a temple of Goddess Vagdevi (Saraswati) and the Muslim community calls Kamal Maula Mosque. As per an ASI order issued on April 7, 2003, Hindus are allowed to worship inside the Bhojshala complex every Tuesday, while Muslims are allowed to offer namaz at the site on Fridays.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday announced that the state would provide financial assistance of Rs 40,000 to labourers buying electric scooters. The CM made the announcement while speaking before the inauguration of the airport terminal in Gwalior earlier in the day. We have raised the financial assistance amount to Rs 4 lakh from the current Rs 1 lakh in case of death of labourers or (them suffering) physical disabilities, he said. Workers will be provided with an assistance of Rs 40,000 to buy e-scooters, he said, also announcing a hike in the wages of labourers of various categories. The monthly wages of unskilled labourers are being increased to Rs 11,450, semi-skilled to Rs 12,446 and agricultural labourers to Rs 9,160, the CM said. The administration in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district on Wednesday sealed 41 shops selling firecrackers for non-compliance with licence norms, a decision coming in the wake of the Harda tragedy, an official said. An explosion and subsequent blaze at a firecracker factory in MP's Harda district on Tuesday killed 11 people and injured more than 200 others. Jabalpur Collector Deepak Saxena and Superintendent of Police Aditya Pratap Singh on Wednesday inspected manufacturing units, warehouses and shops of firecrackers and explosive materials located in the district. The officials found 41 firecracker shops located in Kathunda area flouting licence conditions, the district administration said in a press release. Besides, the officials also found that these shops had not maintained records properly.
