The delay in finalising a seat allocation agreement among the Maha Vikas Aghadi allies for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections has ignited concerns among smaller constituents as the nomination process commenced on Tuesday. As discussions on seat-sharing drag on among the MVA partners, minor parties within the opposition bloc, including the Samajwadi Party (SP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Left parties, and the Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), are growing increasingly restless. Aspirants from various parties are flocking to MVA offices seeking tickets as the nomination filing process got underwaywith a deadline of October 29. The continued delays in seat allocation could potentially jeopardise their electoral prospects. Ahead of the Maharashtra assembly polls, former chief minister Narayan Rane has said the need of the hour is to introspect if the fragmented political scenario in the state is conducive to people's welfare and their interests. The repeated change in ideology and even constituency impacts the state's economy and the fiscal deficit is growing, BJP leader Rane told PTI here on Saturday while coming down heavily on Shiv Sena (UBT) head and former CM Uddhav Thackeray. Rane feels the ruling Mahayuti (comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar's NCP) has an edge in the assembly polls, scheduled on November 20, due to BJP's strong leadership at the Centre. But at the same time, he also said, "We (everyone) need to introspect whether political fragmentation impacts people's welfare and interests." Notably, the Shiv Sena split after a rebellion led by Eknath Shinde in June 2022. Shinde then joined hands with the BJP to form government. The NCP founded b

A court here on Saturday granted bail to advertising firm director Bhavesh Bhinde, a prime accused in the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse case. Bhinde's bail plea was allowed by additional sessions Judge V M Pathade. The detailed order was not available yet. Bhinde, through his lawyer Sana Khan, had contended that the "unfortunate incident " that claimed 17 lives in May this year was an "act of God", and he was "implicated for political vendetta." The hoarding installed in suburban Ghatkopar area collapsed due to "unexpected, unusual wind speed" and no fault can be attributed to the applicant (whose firm had installed it), advocate Khan argued. It was also submitted that Bhinde was not the director of the firm at the time of the installation of the gigantic hoarding. Bhinde has been booked for 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder.' The prosecution opposed bail to him, saying there was enough evidence to show that Bhinde was actively involved in the case. As many as 17 ...
