Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday suggested to NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar that had he campaigned in his nephew's assembly constituency, it would have been difficult for the latter to win the seat. In the just-concluded Maharashtra assembly polls, Rohit Pawar, the grandnephew of NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, retained his Karjat Jamkhed seat in Ahilyanagar district by defeating BJP's Ram Shinde by a thin margin of 1,243 votes. On Monday, Rohit Pawar accompanied the NCP (SP) head during the latter's visit to the memorial of the state's first chief minister Y B Chavan here on his death anniversary. Later, Deputy CM and NCP leader Ajit Pawar also visited the memorial of Chavan to pay homage to the late leader. Rohit Pawar came face-to-face with Ajit Pawar there. While congratulating his nephew, Ajit Pawar quipped, "Come, take my blessings. You barely survived (in retaining the seat). Had I held a rally (in Karjat Jamkhed), imagine what would have happened." As the results of Assembly elections and bypolls brought a mixed bag for the INDIA bloc on Saturday, with the defeat in Maharashtra coming as a major setback, leaders of its constituents once again highlighted that smaller parties did not get enough seats to contest, even as they called the Jharkhand victory a "moral defeat" for the attempts at communal polarisation. The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, which has the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as its constituents, swept the Maharashtra polls, months after the Lok Sabha election, in which the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) won a large chunk of seats. Communist Party of India (Marxist) Politburo member Ashok Dhawale flagged the delay in finalising seat-sharing arrangements, the race among key opposition parties to get the maximum number of seats to contest and not giving enough space to smaller parties among the reasons for the INDIA bloc's below-par performance in Maharashtra, even as he accused .
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday called the Maharashtra poll results, in which the BJP-led Mahayuti put up a stunning performance, completely unexpected and incomprehensible. Addressing a news conference, Thackeray said he could not believe Maharashtra, which listened to him as kutumb pramukh (head of family) during the coronavirus pandemic, would behave this way with him. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comprising Sena (UBT), Congress and Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) suffered a crushing defeat, with its candidates winning or leading in about 50 seats, a far cry from the boasts by many of its senior leaders that the combine will trounce the Mahayuti. Thackeray said the results reflect that there was a tsunami rather than a wave. We will keep fighting for the rights of Maharashtra, Thackeray said. The Mahayuti of BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP could win over 230 of the 288 seats in the state. Of the 95 seats it contested, the Sena (UBT) was winnin
BJP leaders, including Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, on Saturday hailed the party's grand win in Maharashtra as people's faith in the "double-engine" government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Thanking people for the "historic victory" of the Mahayuti alliance, Shah said that by giving such a "huge mandate amidst illusion and lies," people have shut shops of "fake well-wishers" of the Constitution -- a swipe at the opposition-led alliance, which had flagged the alleged threat to the Constitution from the saffron party and used claim as its main call to voters. BJP president J P Nadda said the landslide victory of the alliance was a reflection of the people's unwavering faith in the welfare policies and good governance of the double-engine government under Modi's able leadership. Rajnath Singh said the mandate underscored the people's trust in the BJP's commitment to good governance and development, and the credibility of the prime minister's ...
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) still holds the key to the BJP's electoral success as the outcome of the Maharashtra Assembly polls showed. According to latest figures of counting of votes, the BJP-led Mahayuti could win over 230 of the 288 assembly seats in the state, leaving the opposition Congress-Shiv Sena (UBT)-NCP(SP) combine with just 50 seats. Ahead of the elections in Maharashtra, the RSS had launched an extensive outreach programme to shape public opinion in favour of the BJP-led alliance in the state. The BJP's ideological fountainhead had started the move in coordination with all of its affiliates. According to sources, small 'tolis' (teams) of 'swayamsevaks', formed under the plan, reached out to people in every nook and cranny of the state. Each of these teams held small group meetings with five to ten people and also reached out to families through their local network in 'mohallas' in their respective localities carrying the message. "They did their work," a

Maharashtra Assembly elections: Mahayuti coalition leads in 229 seats, while Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance leads in 53 seats and others in six Assembly constituencies
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday denied any row over the CM's post and asserted that leaders of Mahayuti will take a call even as counting of votes showed the saffron party-led coalition is heading for a landslide victory. Addressing reporters, Fadnavis said the results of the Maharashtra assembly polls show that the state supports PM Narendra Modi and also thanked women voters. "Opposition's efforts of propagating a fake narrative, and polarisation of voters based on religion foiled by masses," said Fadnavis. The Deputy CM said he succeeded in breaking the 'chakravyuh' of opposition due to the support of voters, the BJP team and party leaders. With some leaders in BJP demanding that Fadnavis don the mantle of the next CM, the BJP stalwart said there was no row over the CM's post in Mahayuti- comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP. "Leaders of Mahayuti parties will decide (on next CM)," Fadnavis told reporters in Mumbai. He said the peopl

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena of Raj Thackeray and Prakash Ambedkar's Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi failed to make an impact in the state assembly polls as trends showed the ruling Mahayuti cruising to a landslide victory. Parties like the Samajwadi Party and All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen were in a slightly better position. While the MNS had fielded 125 candidates, the VBA had 200 candidates in the fray. The bad news for the MNS was compounded with Amit Thackeray, son of the party chief, trailing at third place in Mahim seat in Mumbai. The Raju Shetti-led Swabhimani Paksha, which had fielded 19 candidates, also failed to make any impact. It is known to have influence among farmers, especially in western Maharashtra. Incidentally, on the eve of counting of votes, Ambedkar had claimed his party would get a sizable number of seats and would get to choose which side can form the government. As per trends made available on the EC website, the Samajwadi Party, Jan Surajya Shakti and
