Apple 'looking at' manufacturing facility in Indonesia: CEO Tim Cook

Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company is looking at manufacturing in Indonesia as he met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Wednesday. We talked about the president's desire to see manufacturing in the country, and it's something that we will look out, Cook told reporters after the meeting. Widodo's administration has worked for years to bring manufacturing to the country to power economic development, while Apple is seeking to diversify its supply chains away from China, where most of its smartphones and tablets are assembled. The company began moving some production to countries like Vietnam, and more recently India, after shutdowns to fight COVID-19 in China repeatedly disrupted the company's shipments. I think the investment ability in Indonesia is endless. I think that, there is a lot of great places to invest, and we're investing. We believe in the country, Cook said. The previous day, Cook met Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi, where he said Apple plans

Govt failed to realise 'Make in India' due to 'complete inaction': Kharge

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday targeted the Centre on 'Make in India' and alleged that the government has failed to realise the initiative due to "complete inaction" in creating jobs and utilising funds. He posed several questions on why the government did not create enough jobs and on the under-utilisation of funds in key sectors to promote manufacturing in the country. "The Modi government failed to realise 'Make in India'! The loud drumbeating on their interventions in the manufacturing sector has been drowned by complete inaction," he said in a post on X. Posing several questions, the Congress chief asked why the value added by manufacturing in India's GDP declined from 16 per cent to 13 per cent over the past decade. He also asked why the average manufacturing growth plunged under the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "It was 7.85 per cent during Congress-UPA which dropped to almost 6 per cent only," he said. Recalling that the Centre had promise

Govt's determination pushed Make in India in defence: DRDO chief Kamat

DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat on Saturday said the Indian government's determination to make India self-reliant in defence production has led to a leap in the sector. Asked about what made the 'Make in India' a success story, Kamat said, "Several factors have made this story possible, the first amongst it is government determination to make Aatmnirbharta happen. I think that is the most important factor which has changed the storyline." "We have been talking about self-reliance for a long time but there was no determination on the part of the government. Once the present government has come to power they have really made a strong push to enforce Aatmnirbharta," Kamat said at the Firstpost Defence Summit 2024. "The list that the government has published, which services now have to buy from Indian companies, has given a push to Indian companies to invest and start making the systems within the country... Also speeding up of the acquisition process with DAP 2020, has given fillip to this
