Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurates ISKCON campus in Mathura

Stressing on the need to establish milk processing units at the tehsil level, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Wednesday asked the ISKCON administration to take the lead in the formation of "milk societies" in rural areas by associating women with them. "It will pave the way for increasing the income of cattle-owners," he said while inaugurating a dairy plant on the premises of the Bhakti Vedant Gurukul, the extension campus of ISKCON in the Ajhai area of Mathura. Though the state government is looking after nine lakh cows in the state, there is a need to improve their breed, he said. The Deen Dayal Veterinary university has been making efforts to improve the breed of the Indian cow, and the ISKCON administration can also take lead in this direction, Adityanath added. Earlier, he inaugurated a Krishna Balram temple in the Ajhai campus of ISKCON. He also paid obeisance at the Bhagwat Bhavan of Sri Krishna Janmasthan.

Need to limit number of devotees at a time: Bankey Bihari temple priests

The number of devotees inside the Bankey Bihari temple at a time should be restricted while the VIP enclosure should be removed, priests at the shrine said, a day after two devotees "suffocated to death" due to overcrowding. However, a former president of the shrine's management committee said either a new bigger temple should be constructed and the deity be shifted there or the area around the shrine be developed on the lines of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi. The suggestions came as two devotees were killed in early hours of Saturday, with District Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal saying "prima facie, the cause of death is suffocation due to a heavy rush at the mangala aarti'" during the Krishna Janmashtami celebrations. Temple priest Gaurav Goshwami said limited number of devotees should be allowed inside the shrine at a time and a barrier system should put in place outside it to manage crowd. Another priest, Gyanendra Goshwami, said the VIP enclosure should be removed

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav Saturday attacked the state government over the death of two devotees in a stampede-like situation at Mathura's Bankey Bihari temple during Janmashtami celebrations, blaming it on an "administrative failure" and a "Rs 27-crore loot" in the name of beautification.
