Sisodia thanks Delhi for AAP's win in polls, says negative party defeated

Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia on Wednesday thanked the people of Delhi for voting his party to victory in the MCD polls and said it was their mandate that helped it defeat the "world's biggest and most negative party". While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has crossed the majority mark of 126, the BJP has won 99, according to the latest State Election Commission figures. The Congress was lagging far behind, winning just seven seats. Of the 250 wards under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the AAP has won 131 seats and was ahead in three. MCD polls: Trends show AAP inching ahead of BJP; Congress far behind

The latest trends in the MCD elections show the Aam Aadmi Party just edging past the the BJP. The BJP has won 10 seats and the AAP six as the results started trickling in. The MCD has 250 wards, and the simple majority mark is 126. According to the trends available on the State Election Commission website at 10:45 am, the AAP was leading in 127 seats and the BJP in 106. The Congress was a long way behind at 11. The initial trends (at 9:30 am) put the BJP ahead of the AAP by a significant margin, but the pendulum swung in the AAP's favour soon after. This was the first election after the MCD was reunified earlier this year. AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj exuded confidence his party will emerge victorious. Ahead of the counting of votes for the MCD polls, the BJP on Tuesday exuded hope that the tide will turn in its favour even as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed a "landslide" victory as predicted by exit polls. The exit polls on Monday showed that the AAP was going to sweep the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls by winning more than 150 of the 250 municipal wards with the BJP emerging a distant second. MCD polls: Tight security arrangements put in place at counting centres

Twenty companies of paramilitary personnel and over 10,000 officers of Delhi Police have been deployed at the 42 centres where votes for the civic polls in the national capital will be counted on Wednesday, officials said. Counting will begin at 8 am under tight security arrangements, they said. Besides the counting centres, heavy police presence will also be ensured outside the offices of political parties. Adequate security personnel will also be deployed to prevent clashes between activists of different parties. Elections to the 250-ward Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) were held on December 4. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Public Relations) Suman Nalwa said adequate security arrangements had been made for the day of counting. Authorities here are all geared up for the counting of votes polled in the Delhi municipal elections, with officials saying 42 centres have ben set up for the Wednesday exercise which will begin at 8 am amid tight security. 50% voting recorded in MCD elections; both AAP, BJP claim victory

Around 50 per cent voting was recorded on Sunday in the election to the 250 municipal wards in Delhi, with main rivals BJP and AAP claiming victory in the high-stakes contest. No major glitches in electronic voting machines were reported and the voting passed off peacefully with high security observed at the 3,360 critical booths in 493 locations where more than 25,000 police personnel, nearly 13,000 home guards and 100 companies of paramilitary forces were deployed, officials said. Several people in North-East Delhi and some other areas complained that their names were missing from the voters' lists. Poll authorities seek action against AAP after MCC violation in Delhi event

A day ahead of the high-stakes municipal elections in Delhi, poll authorities on Saturday directed police to take necessary action and "lodge an FIR" for alleged violation of the model code of conduct during an event organised by the AAP here.
