MCD elections 2022: Congress promises RO water purifiers to poor in Delhi

The Congress on Thursday promised to provide RO water purifiers to the poor if voted to power in the municipal elections here as it launched its 'Saaf Paani Wali Dilli, Sheila Dikshit Wali Dilli' campaign for the polls. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections will be held on December 4 and votes will be counted on December 7. Launching the campaign, Congress Delhi president Anil Chaudhary said the party's MCD election campaign will centre around issues affecting people and that only the Congress will provide solutions to the "water crisis situation" in the national capital. Lashing out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he alleged that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has cheated the poor people of Delhi by promising free 20 kilolitres of water. The water people get is unfit for consumption, Chaudhary said. "Our slogan for the MCD election will be 'Gandhe Pani Ka Hal, RO Jal' to make Delhi 'Beemari Mukt' (free of diseases) as clean water is everyone's right," he said. Earlier,

MCD Polls: BJP failed, Delhi will give befitting reply, says Sisodia

Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said the people of Delhi would give a "befitting response" to the BJP, which had "failed" to perform its primary responsibility during its 15-year tenure in charge of the civic body. The BJP has been in power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) -- trifurcated in 2012 into north, south and east corporations and then unified this year -- for three straight terms. Addressing public meetings at wards in Harkesh Nagar, Pul Prahladpur and Tughlakabad, Sisodia said citizens of the national capital were "fed up" with the civic body and would choose the party that worked for development this time. "Citizens have been saying that the BJP has been cheating the public for the last 15 years in the MCD. The people are also fed up with their garbage mismanagement. This time, the people will choose the party that works for development," he said. The AAP on Wednesday kicked off the second phase of its campaigning for the MCD elections with music

Will waive off house tax if voted to power in Delhi civic polls: Congress

Delhi Congress on Wednesday said it will waive off dues of private residential buildings, if voted to power in the upcoming polls to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Launching a campaign, "House Tax - Pichhla Maaf, Agla half", the party's Delhi chief Anil Chaudhary said his party will also reduce the property tax by 50 per cent. We will waive off dues of private residential buildings within a month and ensure no house pays more than half the present property tax," he said. Chaudhary said the Delhi Congress will constitute a municipal valuation committee, which will re-categorise colonies under the MCD, and unit area rates will be fixed based on category of roads where the properties are located. "We will also ensure basic standards of civic infrastructure and services in all settlements and strengthen the Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC) project. All records ...

MCD polls: AAP launches 'Kejriwal ki Sarkar, Kejriwal ka Paarshad' campaign

AAP leader Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia sharpened his attack on the BJP, accusing it of having "no vision" for the MCD as he announced a new campaign to "alert voters" in choosing the Aam Aadmi Party in the civic body polls. BJP leaders have no agenda in this polls other than to "abuse Arvind Kejriwal day and night", he alleged while launching the 'Kejriwal ki Sarkar, Kejriwal ka Paarshad' (Kejriwal's government, Kejriwal's councillor) campaign. Sisodia claimed the "AAP is set to win" the MCD polls and if BJP wins even one ward in Delhi "they will impede development work in their areas". The BJP has done nothing in the past 15 years in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and has no vision for the next five years as well, he alleged. "But, we have a vision to fix civic problems, make parks better and address landfill sites issues. The AAP is going to win this election. So, if you want work to be done in your ward, pick an AAP councillor. If a BJP councillor is elected i

BJP using 'money, muscle power' to intimidate voters, says Delhi Cong

The BJP is using "money and muscle power" to intimidate voters in the civic body elections, Delhi Congress president Anil Chaudhary alleged on Monday and said his party will file a police complaint in the matter. Chaudhary claimed that "corruption" in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in the last 15 years has whipped up a strong anti-BJP tide in Delhi and the saffron party will go to any extent to win the upcoming civic body polls. "We will file a police complaint against the BJP as their youth wing workers are using money and muscle power to intimidate the voters. We will urge the Delhi Police to detain such goons so that people can cast their votes in a peaceful and democratic manner," he said. The voting for MCD will be held on December 4 and votes will be counted on December 7. He further claimed that the BJP is "using intimidatory tactics" and said it will boomerang on them in the upcoming polls.
