Harvey Weinstein returns to court for hearing ahead of sex crimes retrial

Harvey Weinstein is due back in court in New York on Wednesday for a hearing ahead of his retrial on sex crimes charges stemming from his landmark #MeToo case. Among other things, Judge Curtis Farber is expected to address a request from prosecutors to consolidate that case with a newer charge into a single trial. The former movie mogul was already facing retrial on two sex crime charges after the state's highest court overturned his 2020 conviction earlier this year. Then in September, he was hit with a new charge accusing him of another assault. He has pleaded not guilty. Weinstein was convicted on charges since overturned that he forcibly performed oral sex on a TV and film production assistant in 2006, and rape in the third degree for an attack on an aspiring actor in 2013. In the new charge, prosecutors say he forced oral sex on a different woman in a Manhattan hotel in the spring of 2006. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office has argued in court filings that hold

Harvey Weinstein found guilty of rape, sexual assault in Los Angeles trial

After a month-long trial and nine days of deliberations, Los Angeles jurors on Monday found Harvey Weinstein guilty of the rape and sexual assault of just one of the four accusers he was charged with abusing. But the three guilty counts involving an Italian actor and model known at the trial as Jane Doe 1 still struck a major blow against the disgraced movie mogul, and provided another #MeToo moment of reckoning, five years after he became a magnet for the movement. Weinstein, who is two years into a 23-year sentence for a rape and sexual assault conviction in New York that is under appeal, could get up to 24 years in prison in California when he's sentenced. He was found guilty of rape, forced oral copulation and another sexual misconduct count involving the woman who said he appeared uninvited at her hotel room door during a Los Angeles film festival in 2013. Harvey Weinstein forever destroyed a part of me that night in 2013 and I will never get that back. The criminal trial was

In a #MeToo moment, high-profile Hollywood trials play out in courtrooms

The #MeToo movement is having another moment in the spotlight as high-profile sexual assault trials play out in courtrooms from coast to coast. Five years after allegations against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein triggered a wave of sexual misconduct claims in Hollywood and beyond, he and "That '70s Show" actor Danny Masterson are fighting criminal rape charges at trials down the hall from each other in Los Angeles. Sexual assault lawsuits against two Oscar winners actor Kevin Spacey and screenwriter-director Paul Haggis are underway in adjacent New York courthouses, where Spacey's defense rested Wednesday while lawyers for Haggis and his accuser gave opening statements. All of the men deny the allegations. A forcible touching case against another Academy Award winner, actor Cuba Gooding Jr, wrapped up in New York last week with a guilty plea to a non-criminal harassment violation and no jail time, to the dismay of at least some of his accusers. The confluence is a coincidence, but

Harvey Weinstein raped me, 'Sopranos' actress Annabella Sciorra tells court

- "The Sopranos" actress Annabella Sciorra's voice cracked as she told a court Thursday that being raped by Harvey Weinstein left her feeling like she was having "a seizure" and caused her to self-harm. In emotional testimony at Weinstein's trial, Sciorra described how he barged into her New York apartment late at night in the early 1990s and attacked her while she was wearing a nightgown. "It was just so disgusting that my body started to shake in a way that was very unusual. I didn't really even know what was happening," the 59-year-old said. Sciorra faced the jury as she held her hands above her head and clasped her wrists to demonstrate how Weinstein, then three times her weight, held her down on her bed and sexually assaulted her. "He got on top of me and he raped me," she said, under questioning by lead prosecutor Joan Illuzzi-Orbon. "He put his penis inside of my vagina and he raped me," Sciorra repeated. Weinstein, 67, avoided eye contact and gestured towards one of his .
