No decision on suspension of services of East-West Kolkata Metro: Official

The Metro Railway Kolkata said that no decision has been finalised for the shutdown of the entire 16.6 km long East-West Metro corridor for installation of the Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system. It said that the implementing agency Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (KMRCL) has recommended a 45-day block for linking the Sealdah-Esplanade stretch of the East-West corridor. "KMRCL has recommended a 45-day block of services from February 8 to March 24 to install a unified Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system across the 16.6 km corridor from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V. This is crucial for seamless direct connectivity between the two busy terminal railway stations of Howrah and Sealdah and the state IT hub in Salt Lake township. Mumbai metro lines 7, 2A get CCRS certification for full-speed operations

The chief commissioner of rail safety (CCRS) has granted safety certification for Mumbai metro lines 7 (red line) and 2A (yellow line) that will enable them to operate at a full capacity speed of 80 kmph, an official said on Saturday. According to a release, this achievement marks the successful compliance with all conditions set during the provisional authorisation. With the CCRS certification, the two metro lines can operate unrestricted at a full capacity speed of 80 kmph, up from the previous temporary speed limit of 50 to 60 kmph at some locations. Operated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the two lines are critical to easing congestion on Mumbai's busiest routes. DMRC finishes longest underground tunnel on Tughlakabad-Aerocity route

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday completed the longest underground tunnel between the Tughlakabad Airforce Launching Shaft and Maa Anandmayee Marg on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor of Phase-IV, an official statement said. A 105-metre-long tunnel boring machine (TBM) broke through at Maa Anandmayee Marg station this morning, after boring a 2.65-km-long tunnel, the statement added. Two parallel circular tunnels for up and down movement are being constructed on this stretch as part of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor. The breakthrough on the other parallel tunnel is expected to be achieved in January 2025, it said. The new tunnel has been constructed at an average depth of around 16 metres and about 1,894 rings have been installed in the tunnel, with an inner diameter of 5.8 metres, it added. Metro's first six-coach train for Phase-IV operation reaches Delhi: DMRC

The first six-coach train for Delhi Metro's Phase-IV expansion arrived here on Friday, a statement said. The train set, manufactured by Alstom at its facility in Sricity near Chennai, was inaugurated on September 23 in the presence of Delhi Metro Railway Cooperation (DMRC) and Alstom delegates, the statement said. It has now been stationed at Delhi Metro's Mukundpur depot, where it will undergo a number of tests required for its statutory certification for revenue service as a part of established rules and protocols, it said. Under the RS-17 contract, DMRC will be receive a total of 312 metro coaches (52 trains) for the Phase-IV priority corridors, i.e. Majlis Park to Maujpur, Janakpuri West to R K Ashram Marg and Tughlakabad to Delhi Aerocity. Lucknow building collapse: 3 more bodies recovered, toll rises to 8

The death toll in the building collapse here climbed to eight with rescuers pulling out three more bodies from the debris, officials said on Sunday. Twenty-eight people were injured when the three-storey building housing godowns and a motor workshop collapsed in the Transport Nagar area here on Saturday evening. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered the bodies of three people, who were identified as Raj Kishore (27), Rudra Yadav (24) and Jagrup Singh (35), during the rescue operation, Relief Commissioner G S Naveen said. The operation is still underway. A senior district administration official said they are now focusing on ensuring that no one else is trapped under the rubble. Police said the building was constructed around four years ago and some construction work was underway at the time of the incident. Delhi Metro records highest-ever daily ridership of 7.748 mn on Aug 20

The Delhi Metro on August 20 registered the highest-ever count of daily passenger journeys at 77.48 lakh, officials said. The urban transporter shared the data in a post on X on Wednesday, saying it has surpassed its previous milestone accomplished on August 13 this year. A total of 77,48,838 passengers travelled on August 20. The count of daily passenger journeys in the Delhi Metro stood at 72.38 lakh on August 13, 71.09 lakh on February 13, 71.07 lakh on August 12, 71.04 lakh on September 4, 2023 and 70.88 lakh on February 12, the data showed. Journey or line utilisation is calculated by the number of corridors passengers use to reach their destinations. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday laid the foundation of the Metro Line 12 which will connect Kalyan with Taloja in Navi Mumbai, stating it will bring in a new wave of development in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The upcoming metro line is an extension of Metro Line-5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan) which will play a crucial role in improving the connectivity in MMR and extending the Metro network. Delhi Metro unveils train exclusively wrapped to celebrate Republic Day

The Delhi Metro on Thursday unveiled a train exclusively wrapped to celebrate the 75th Republic Day, officials said. The special train was flagged off from the Mandi House Metro Station on the Violet Line by Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director Vikas Kumar.
