Xiaomi India head Muralikrishnan B resigns to pursue academic interests

Chinese smart devices firm Xiaomi's India head Muralikrishnan B has resigned from the company to pursue his interest in academic research, the company said on Monday. He will continue to support Xiaomi India as an independent Strategic Advisor, the company said. "Muralikrishnan B, the current President of Xiaomi India, will be transitioning out of his role at the end of the year. After over six impactful years with the company, Murali is set to pursue his passion for academic research, focusing on his Executive Doctorate in Management, where he aims to deepen his expertise in Consumer Behaviour on Technology Platforms," the company said in a statement. After leading the smartphone market in India for several years, Xiaomi has been making efforts to reclaim its numero uno position. According to Counterpoint Research, Xiaomi made a comeback to the top position in the second quarter of 2024, but it again lost the position to Vivo. The company had a 16.7 per cent share in volume terms

DoT asks operators to re-verify over 600,000 mobile connections in 60 days

The Department of Telecom has directed telecom operators to verify more than 6 lakh mobile connections suspected to have been obtained using invalid, non-existent, or fake documents, an official statement said on Thursday. The DoT has issued directives to telecom operators to carry out immediate re-verification of the identified mobile numbers within 60 days. "DoT has identified approximately 6.80 lakh mobile connections suspected to have been obtained using invalid, non-existent, or fake and forged Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) KYC documents," the statement said. The department has flagged around 6.80 lakh mobile connections as potentially fraudulent after advanced AI-driven analysis. "The questionable veracity of the PoI/PoA KYC documents suggests the use of fabricated documents for obtaining these mobile connections. Advisory issued against calls threatening disconnection of mobile services

The Department of Telecom on Friday issued an advisory regarding calls threatening people with disconnection of their mobile services. The Department of Telecom (DoT), which governs telecom services in the country, alerted citizens about a surge in malicious calls whereby it is being said that the receivers' mobile numbers will be disconnected within two hours by the DoT. "The DoT does not make calls to citizens threatening disconnection. Citizens are urged to exercise caution and not provide any personal information if they receive such calls," the advisory said. In the advisory, the DoT urged citizens to not share any personal information if they receive a call threatening disconnection. "Verify the authenticity of such calls with your service providers. Be aware that the DoT does not communicate disconnection warnings via phone calls. Any such call should be treated as suspicious," the advisory said. HTech launches Honor 90 5G smartphone in UP, to target major cities first

Smart devices maker HTech will target major cities of Uttar Pradesh in the first phase to market its smartphone, HONOR 90 5G, which it launched in the state on Monday. Senior vice-president of HTech C P Khandelwal, who was in Lucknow to mark the launch of the smartphone, told PTI, "The launch has been good, and we have launched it on online and offline channels." Android mobile device case: SC to hear pleas of Google, CCI on October 10

The Supreme Court on Friday said it will hear on October 10 the cross-pleas of Google and the Competition Commission of India (CCI) challenging the verdict of an appellate tribunal in a case related to Google's alleged anti-competitive practices in the android mobile device case. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices P S Narasimha and Manoj Misra took up the appeals and said it wanted some time to get ready with the case. Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for one of the parties, said the plea may be kept for final disposal later. The bench then said that the cross-pleas can be listed for final disposal on October 10 and the parties shall complete filing of pleadings by October 7.
