Shami, who did not play after the ODI World Cup 2023 and was recently given the Arjuna Award for excellence in sport, was hoping to turn up for IPL after undergoing treatment for an ankle in London
Former England pacer Steve Harmisson love watching the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami go about their business and thanks to their unbelievable skills, he feels India have become a formidable force in all conditions. Shami, who is nursing an ankle injury and is not part of the India-England series yet, is a master of seam bowling while Bumrah on Saturday showed his wide of variety of skills by running through the England batting with a sensational display of reverse swing. In fact, the second Test has been dominated by pacers with Bumrah recording his best figures in in Indian conditions and James Anderson defying age with incisive spells. "They both have been brilliant. It shows their class. If you got great skill sets, you will survive, you will ask good questions and that is what Anderson and Bumrah have got. They are unbelievable bowlers," Harmison told PTI on Sunday. "In Hyderabad, where Bumrah got Root and Duckett, that was one of most engrossing hours of test cric
Kohli, if he wins the Men's ODI Player of the Year award, will become the first person to win it a record four times
A few weeks ago, India's bowling coach Paras Mhambrey in an interview to PTI was very clear that no coach can claim credit to have created a pacer of Mohammed Shami's calibre. On the second and third day of the first Test against South Africa when Dean Elgar, David Bedingham and Marco Jansen were making a mockery of Shardul Thakur and debutant Prasidh Krishna, Shami's absence was felt like never before. It could be said with a degree of certainty that Prasidh might have played his first and last Test for some time and in the next game Ravindra Jadeja and Avesh Khan would walk into the playing XI in place of him and Shardul Thakur. The Indian fans got a reality check that the country's second line of red ball bowlers aren't exactly finished products and the days of dominance due to Jasprit Bumrah, Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav could be all but over. Ishant and Umesh are unofficially done with their Test careers and Shami is nearer to end rather than start. Th

The awards will be conferred on the athletes by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 9. Chirag and Satwik are Asian Games gold medallists, World Championships bronze winners and Commonwealth Games silver medallists. On the other hand, Shami, 33, had a spectacular run in the ODI World Cup, where India finished second-best, losing to Australia in the final. Shami was the leading wicket-taker in the World Cup, with 24 wickets to his name in seven outings. The athletes selected for this year's Arjuna award include hockey players Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Sushila Chanu, archers Ojas Pravin Deotale and Aditi Gopichand Swami, boxer Mohammad Hussamuddin, chess player R Vaishali, golfer
Deepak Chahar was unavailable for selection due to a family emergency while Mohammed Shami could not recover in time for the Test series
Senior pacer Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from an ankle injury, is racing against time to be fit for the Test series against South Africa, starting at Centurion on December 26. Though Shami was included in the Test squad that was announced on November 30, the 33-year-old's availability was subjected to his recovery after the treatment. In that context, PTI understands that Shami might not board the flight to South Africa along with other members of the Test squad such as captain Rohit Sharma, senior batter Virat Kohli, fellow pacer Jasprit Bumrah and others. They are scheduled to fly out to Johannesburg on Friday. Shami is likely to continue his recuperation at home, and the pacer could make a return during the Test series at home against England starting from January 25 at Hyderabad. If a replacement is indeed required for Shami, then the selectors under Ajit Agarkar have the option of drafting in a bowler from the India 'A' squad which is currently playing in South ...
Pacer Mohammed Shami, one of the architects of India's near successful World Cup campaign, has been nominated for this year's Arjuna Award, while men's doubles badminton pair of Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were selected for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Shami, 33, had a spectacular run in the ODI World Cup, where India finished second best, losing to Australia in the final. As per the ministry's sources, a special request was made by the BCCI to the sports ministry to include Shami's name as originally he didn't feature in the list of the country's second-highest sporting honour. Shami was the leading wicket-taker in the World Cup, with 24 wickets to his name in seven outings. After sitting out of the first four games, Shami shone bright when given the opportunity, claiming 24 wickets at an average of just 5.26. Besides Shami, 16 other sportspersons have been nominated for the Arjuna Award. They include men's hockey players Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Sushi

Star pacer Mohammed Shami has developed an ankle condition, which currently requires medical attention, as the Indian team management will hope that he regains fitness in time for the first Test against South Africa starting from December 26 at Centurion. Shami's name has been kept in the Test squad with a star mark and the BCCI media release stated that he "is currently undergoing medical treatment and his availability is subject to fitness." However, there was no specific information on the nature of the injury as to whether he suffered it on the field or more fitness related. But it has been learnt that Shami was in Mumbai to consult a sports orthopaedic to diagnose his ankle condition. "It is not exactly an on-field injury. It is an ankle condition that has developed. Shami came to Mumbai to consult the doctors. He will also go to NCA for rehab and recuperation work. "The national selectors wouldn't have selected him had there not been a chance of him getting fit in time for t

Senior India pacer Mohammed Shami has said there is nothing extraordinary in his bowling, adding he just focuses on stump-to-stump length and putting the delivery in "a zone" to get wickets. Shami has been India's go-to bowler in the World Cup, where he is currently the side's top wicket-taker, scalping 23 wickets in six matches at an economy of 5.01, including a four-for and three fifers. He grabbed seven wickets in the semifinal against New Zealand in Mumbai on Tuesday. "I always look at what the situation is, how the pitch and the ball are behaving and if the ball is swinging or not," Shami told Star Sports. "And, if the ball is not swinging, I try and bowl stump to stump while trying to land it in a zone where the ball can catch an edge of the batters (when they) are driving." Shami missed the initial four matches of the World Cup, with all-rounder Hardik Pandya being the preferred pacer in the team before an ankle injury ruled him out for the remainder of the competition.
