Bihar issues advisory on Monkeypox, health desk to be set up at airport

Bihar's Health Department has issued an advisory to the district administrations and hospitals on the prevention of Monkeypox, asking officials concerned to sensitise people about the viral disease. The Patna district administration has asked the civil surgeon to set up a health desk at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport on a priority basis following the advisory of the department. Talking to PTI, Patna District Magistrate (DM) Chandrashekhar Singh, said, "While no case has been reported so far, airport officials and district civil surgeon have been asked to ensure close surveillance of incoming travellers." "Officials have been asked to note the history of the last 21 days of all international travellers visiting Patna at the airport. The health desk at Patna airport will be set up within 24 hours of the issuance of the advisory," he added. Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu launches indigenous Monkeypox RT-PCR kit

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday launched an indigenous Monkeypox (Mpox) RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) kit here. The kit was developed at Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone in Visakhapatnam by Transasia Diagnostics. It was validated by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). "Proud to launch India's first indigenous monkeypox RT-PCR Kit..The lyophilized components in the kit are designed to be suitable for shipping and even use in remote areas," said Naidu in a post on 'X'. According to the CM, the kit enhances epidemic preparedness manifold with precise, reliable and accessible diagnosis. Further, he noted that it reflects the 'Make in AP (Andhra Pradesh)' tag on the world stage, including demonstrating India's leadership in healthcare innovation.

No mpox infection reported in India, no cause for worry: K'nataka minister

Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil on Friday asked people not to worry about the mpox outbreak reported in some African countries as no infection has been detected in India till now. The minister said free testing facilities have been arranged at the Victoria Hospital. Mpox infections are generally self-limiting, lasting between two and four weeks, and its patients usually recover with supportive medical care and management. It is transmitted through prolonged and close contact with an infected patient. We held a departmental meeting today on preparedness for mpox. As of now, there is nothing to worry about, as no cases have been reported here, Patil told reporters after a meeting with the officials here. The central government has issued guidelines. At Victoria Hospital, we have arranged free testing facilities, he added. The minister said the people of Karnataka need not worry as the state government has made all preparations to deal with the infection. T

S'pore begins screening incoming passengers at airports for mpox symptoms

Temperature and visual screening will be carried out at Changi and Seletar airports from Friday onwards as a precautionary measure against mpox, after one confirmed case of a potentially more serious variant each was reported in Sweden and Thailand. The Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Transport and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said they will enhance Singapore's surveillance capabilities against the infectious disease at the borders. Similar screening measures will also be implemented at sea checkpoints for crew and passengers arriving on ships from mpox-affected areas, reported The Straits Times. The MOH said that while there are no direct flights between Singapore and any country with an mpox outbreak, there will be temperature and visual screening at Changi and Seletar airports for inbound travellers and crew arriving on flights from places that may be exposed to outbreak of the viral disease.
