Centre procures record 1.37 mn tonnes of soybean under MSP scheme

The Centre has procured a record 13.73 lakh tonne of soybean under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme so far in the current marketing season, a senior agriculture ministry official said on Thursday. The procurement, undertaken to protect farmers from falling prices, has surpassed all previous records, with the last highest procurement being 19,483 tonne in 2018-19. "In soybean, we have achieved an all-time high procurement under PSS (Price Support Scheme). This was possible due to special efforts the ministry took to create awareness in states," the ministry official told PTI on condition of anonymity. The procurement represents 41 per cent of the total sanctioned quantity of 33.85 LT and has benefited 5.78 lakh farmers till January 13 of the 2024-25 kharif marketing season. The procurement is being carried out through nodal agencies Nafed and NCCF at a support price of Rs 4,892 per quintal across six states. Nafed has procured 9.78 lakh tonne, while NCCF has procured about 3.

Cabinet hikes copra MSP by upto Rs 420 to Rs 12,100 per quintal for 2025

The government on Friday announced an increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for copra by up to Rs 420 to Rs 12,100 per quintal for 2025 with a budget outlay of Rs 855 crore. A decision in this regard was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The MSP for 'milling copra' has been increased by Rs 420 to Rs 11,582 per quintal, while for 'ball copra' by Rs 100 to Rs 12,100 per quintal for 2025, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters. The total financial implication would be Rs 855 crore. Cooperative agencies Nafed and NCCF will be the central nodal agencies for the procurement of copra, he added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the Union Cabinet's decision to increase the MSP of six rabi crops will increase the income of farmers and they will become even more prosperous. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the price hikes for six rabi crops, with increases ranging from Rs 130 to Rs 300 per quintal for the 2025-26 marketing season beginning April 2025. "The Union Cabinet, led by Modiji, today approved the increase in MSP of rabi crops for the 2025-26 season. The MSP of rapeseed and mustard has been increased by the highest Rs 300 per quintal and the MSP of lentil has also been increased significantly by Rs 275 per quintal. These increased MSPs will enhance the income of farmers. Our farmers will become even more prosperous," Shah wrote on 'X' in Hindi. Govt approves Rs 35,000 cr for 'PM Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan'

The government on Wednesday approved Rs 35,000 crore for PM Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) with an aim to provide remunerative price to farmers as well as stabilisation of market price for consumers. The decision was taken at the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, informed Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Giving details, the minister said the scheme is aimed at protecting farmers from distress sale during peak harvesting time. It will promote self-sufficiency in the production of pulses, oilseeds and other essential agri-horticulture commodities, increase farmers income and protect consumers' interest.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday met a delegation of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and discussed several issues, including pressing the government for legal guarantee for MSP and freedom from indebtedness, sources said. Amit Shah to launch procurement portal for tur dal growing farmers

Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will on Thursday launch a tur dal procurement portal that will enable farmers to register themselves for selling the commodity and receive payments directly into their bank accounts. The multi-lingual portal will streamline the entire process for tur dal growers in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka and Jharkhand, simplifying the registration, procurement and payment processes. The portal will be launched at a national symposium on 'self-reliance in pulses' to be held here in the capital. Currently, the government procures various kinds of pulses including tur dal through agencies such as Nafed and NCCF for maintaining a buffer stock.
