Mumbai Police detained a person in connection to the kiling of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar in full public glare in Mumbai's Dahisar on Thursday.According to the police, the accused has been identified as Mehul.The police also informed that after the investigation of the incident spot, which continued for 7 hours, the police recovered a pistol, a live cartridge, and CCTV footage.Ghosalkar was shot dead by a lone assailant, whom the police identified as Mauris Noronha, in the Dahisar area. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is set to implement further hour-long roadblocks on the busy Mumbai-Pune Expressway this month commencing from Tuesday, a move which is likely to affect movement of vehicles. In a press release issued on Monday, MSRDC said these traffic blocks were necessitated by the ongoing installation of gantries at various points along the 95-km-long expressway as part of the Highway Management System. These roadblocks will be enforced between 12 noon to 1 pm on a daily basis from October 17 to 19 and on October 26 at various locations along the highway, the release said. These blocks will affect both Pune and Mumbai-bound lanes at key locations such as Lonavala, Khandala Tunnel, Dasturi Police post, Dheku village and Khandala Exit on the specified days, it said. On October 17 (Tuesday), the block will be in effect at Khandala Tunnel and Lonavala for the Pune-bound corridor, while on the subsequent days, the blocks will mainly impact .
Registration of properties in Mumbai municipal area rose 23 per cent year-on-year this month to around 10,600 units -- highest in 10 years -- on better housing demand, according to Knight Frank India. The registration of properties in Mumbai city (area under BMC jurisdiction) touched 10,594 units by 3.15 pm on Saturday. Data pertains to both primary and secondary property market. The registration process is slow on Saturday because of the start of 'shradh' period. The consultant expects the number to rise to around 10,650 units by the end of the day, out of which 82 per cent would be housing. As many as 8,628 units were registered during September last year. In the previous month, 10,902 units were registered. Registration of properties is expected to contribute Rs 1,127 crore to the state government's revenues. Suburban services were delayed on the Central Railway's main line on Wednesday morning by 10-15 minutes due to a technical snag in a local train in Mumbai, alarm chain pulling in an express train and a woman passenger's attempt to forcefully travel in the motorman's cabin of another local train, officials said. A fast local train on way to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in south Mumbai was held up in Bhandup-Nahur section for 20 minutes due to a technical snag, Central Railway's chief public relations officer Dr Shivraj Manaspure told PTI. Besides, an alarm chain pulling in the Solapur-CSMT Express led to halting of the train at Badlapur station in neighbouring Thane district, he said. Road traffic in some parts of Mumbai was affected and local train services slowed down to some extent on Friday morning as moderate to heavy rains continued to lash the metropolis and its suburbs, officials said. Ever since the southwest monsoon made its onset over Mumbai on June 25, the city has been getting showers. In the last 24 hours, Mumbai, its eastern suburbs and western suburbs received an average rainfall of 31 mm, 45 mm and 61 mm respectively, an official said. The city has been getting moderate to heavy showers since early Friday and the intensity of rainfall is more in the suburbs, which resulted in waterlogging at some locations, he said. Commuters complained that the Andheri subway, located between Andheri and Jogeshwari stations of the Western Railway was closed for traffic due to waterlogging. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) on Tuesday began the trial run of the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro line-3 at Sariput Nagar in Aarey Colony here. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis inspected the Metro train from inside and flagged off the trial run around 11 am. Shinde said it will solve the problem of traffic jams. Fadnavis termed the starting of the Metro line-3 trial as a "historic moment". He said it will be the "new lifeline of Mumbai" and when the train will be run on the entire 40 km stretch, it will be a "spiritual satisfaction" for citizens.
