Maharashtra's caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who took ill at his native village in Satara district, is recovering and will return to Mumbai on Sunday evening, an associate said. A team of doctors checked on Shinde as he developed high fever on Saturday. The Shiv Sena leader headed to his native village Dare in Satara district on Friday amid speculation that he was not happy with the way the new state government was shaping up. Registration of properties in Mumbai municipal region rose 5 per cent to over 10,200 units during November on better housing demand, according to Knight Frank India. As many as 9,736 units were registered during November 2023. In a statement on Saturday, real estate consultant Knight Frank India said that Mumbai city, under the jurisdiction of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), recorded 10,216 property registrations in November 2024. The civic-run Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking wants its fleet to have more than 50 per cent electric buses by 2025-26 and then raise the number to 8,000 in the subsequent years. In a release issued during the day, the metropolis' premier road transport undertaking said it has set an ambitious goal to have 100 per cent zero-emission electric bus fleet by 2026-27. An order has been placed for 2,650 single-decker electric buses, it added. More than 30,000 police personal have been deployed on security duty in Mumbai for the Maharashtra assembly elections to be held on Wednesday, officials said. Elaborate arrangements have been made to maintain law and order and ensure smooth conduct of the elections, a police official said on Tuesday. Five additional commissioners of police, 20 deputy commissioners of police, 83 assistant commissioners of police, more than 2,000 other police officers and 25,000 personnel have been deployed, he said. Additionally, three Riot Control Platoons have been put on duty for the purpose of maintaining order.
