Kolkata rape case: Ex-BJP MP, docs summoned for revealing victim's identity

Kolkata Police have issued summonses to former BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and two renowned doctors for allegedly spreading rumours and disclosing the identity of the woman doctor who was raped and murdered at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, an officer said. Apart from these three persons, the police have also issued summonses to 57 others for spreading wrong information about the incident, he said. Dr Kunal Sarkar and Dr Subarna Goswami were issued summonses to appear before officers of the Kolkata Police Headquarters in Lalbazar at 3 pm on Sunday, he added. These people have been accused of revealing the identity of the victim, spreading rumours and fake news, the officer said. "I don't want to be the next victim", read placards carried by several women medics who were part of a march here on Saturday to protest against the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a state-run hospital in Kolkata last week. Hundreds of medics, including doctors and resident doctors, wearing stethoscopes over their white aprons, started their march from the Lady Hardinge Medical College on the sixth day of their agitation over the incident and to press for their demands such as a central law to check violence against healthcare personnel. On reaching Connaught Place, they held an around 25-minute sit-in, before police removed barricades and allowed them to proceed to the Jantar Mantar for the next phase of their demonstration -- a candle light march. Kolkata rape-murder case: Delhi doctors' indefinite strike enters fifth day

Doctors in Delhi, who had been demonstrating inside their respective hospitals, united for a massive protest outside Nirman Bhawan as their indefinite strike, following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, entered its fifth day on Friday with all elective services remaining suspended. The Nirman Bhawan, located near Parliament in Lutyens' Delhi, houses the Ministry of Health besides other departments. Burger King murder: Delhi Police arrests man who brought 2 shooters to spot

Delhi Police on Friday said it has made its first arrest in connection with the recent murder of a man at a food outlet in west Delhi's Rajouri Garden. The arrested accused is the one who allegedly brought the two shooters in his vehicle at the spot to commit the murder, a senior police officer said. The accused is being further interrogated, he added. Aman Joon (26), hailing from Haryana was shot dead by two gangsters while he was sitting with a woman inside a Burger King outlet in Rajouri Garden's J Block on June 18, according to police. The victim had suffered 38 gunshot wounds, the police had said. Joon's killing was an outcome of a gang war between jailed gangsters Neeraj Bawana and Ashok Pradhan, they had said. The officer said that three other suspects, the woman who accompanied Joon and the two shooters, are still at large.
