Nagaland govt meet with tribals on oil exploration remains inconclusive

The consultative meeting of Nagaland government with stakeholders and apex tribal bodies on oil exploration and implementation of RIIN remained inconclusive with the decision to hold further consultations before arriving at the final conclusion, a government spokesperson said. With apex tribal organisations and civil societies raising objection to the decision of the state government to sign an MoU with Assam government on Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and implementation of Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) with two different dates December 1, 1963 and November 1979, the state government on Tuesday held a meeting with them which lasted for almost six hours. Nagaland meet with tribal bodies before signing oil exploration MoU: Dy CM

The Nagaland government has decided not to go ahead with signing any MoU with Assam on oil exploration before a final consultation is held with stakeholders and tribal bodies of the area, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton said. Patton said this while replying to queries from journalists on Thursday on the stand of the state government on objections raised by various tribal organisations and also Naga underground groups on the proposed signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on oil exploration with Assam government along the Disturbed Area Belt (DAB) of the two states. "The government will hold a consultative meeting with all stakeholders before signing the MoU with Assam government," he said. Nagaland transport dept appealed to create facilities for PwDs across state

Nagaland State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) on Friday asked the Transport department to create facilities for persons with disabilities (PwDs) in all public transport and bus terminus across the state. SCPD Diethono Nakhro along with a team of legal advisors and Nagaland State Disaster Forum made the appeal after inspecting the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) Kohima during the day. "We have given them (Transport department) enough time for action to be taken and therefore we came today to inspect the implementation of the notification issued by the state government. "We are also taking up the matter for making the government offices and public spaces accessible for the PwDs," she said. 60 years after becoming a state, Nagaland to get its first medical college

Nagaland has got the approval to set up its first medical college since it got statehood in 1963, Health and Family Welfare Minister P Paiwang Konyak said on Wednesday. The medical college will begin its journey with 100 MBBS students from the academic session 2023-24. We received the approval for a 100 MBBS seat medical college from the National Medical Commission, Medical Assessment & Rating Board (NMC, MARB) on Tuesday, Konyak told a press conference here. The state government will send the acceptance letter within a week to enable the MARB to issue the Letter of Permission for the academic year 2023-24, he said. It is a great and historic day for the people of the northeastern state, the minister said. Health and Family Welfare Commissioner and Secretary Y Kikheto Sema told the press conference that the session will start by June-July this year. Of the 100 seats, 85 would be for students of Nagaland while the remaining 15 will be reserved for aspirants from other states.

Nagaland State health dept begins anti-tobacco campaign in schools

An initiative has been taken in Nagaland to spread an anti-tobacco campaign from schools to homes. The campaign Tobacco Free Schools to Tobacco Free Homes was launched by the State Health and Family Welfare Department on Friday. As part of the initiative, school students are expected to spread awareness among their parents and siblings about the danger of smoking, chewing of tobacco and spitting. Their family members should also be informed about the basic provisions of Tobacco Control Law, and ban of smoking in public places. To be eligible for a Tobacco free home badge, a checklist is given to students which needs to be followed at their homes. Nagaland receives Rs 4,510 cr business investment intent in B20 conference

Nagaland received business interests in various sectors worth Rs 4,510 crore from both national and International business delegates during the Business 20 conference, an official release said on Thursday. Nagaland on Wednesday hosted the fourth and last B20 meeting as part of the G20 summit held in the North East Region (NER) including Manipur, Mizoram and Sikkim. Altogether 60 delegates from 27 countries participated in the conference. Urging people not to panic, the Nagaland government on Saturday said it was fully prepared if a fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic hits the state. Addressing a press conference, state health commissioner and secretary Y Kikheto Sema said the state was fully prepared with better infrastructure and manpower to fight the emerging challenges. Nagaland CM calls for oil exploration in inter-state border areas in Budget

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday presented a Rs 23,183-crore budget for the 2023-24 fiscal, and called for oil exploration along the disputed border with Assam, besides allowing liquor sales in star category hotels. The budget also emphasised on building infrastructure and strengthening the agriculture sector.
