Modi govt sanctioned NH projects worth Rs 3 trn for NE in 10 yrs: Gadkari

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday asserted that the Narendra Modi government has accorded the highest priority to the Northeast and sanctioned national highway projects worth nearly Rs 3 lakh crore for the region in the last 10 years. He inaugurated and laid the foundation for 26 national highway projects worth over Rs 17,500 crore for Assam. Speaking at a function on the last of his two-day visit to Guwahati, Gadkari said, "If infrastructure is good, industry, trade and agriculture will flourish." "There was no dearth of money, only a dearth of people willing to work. That changed under Modi ji. What was not achieved in 65 years was done in the last 10 years," the Union minister added. He said infrastructural development was a prerequisite for the development of the Northeast, and also stressed the region's potential in alternative fuels and bamboo. The National Highway Authority has the potential to monetise around Rs 2 lakh crore from its HAM assets between fiscals 2024 and 2027, according to a report. The authority's roads hold significant potential for asset monetisation in the medium term, and this is expected to be realised through an expanded portfolio of HAM (hybrid annuity model) assets and EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) projects, which have a monetisation capacity -- ranging from Rs 1.75 lakh crore to Rs 2 lakh crore during FY24-27, according to an analysis by Care Edge. The analysis is based on 306 HAM projects awarded to 62 distinct sponsors awarded between fiscal 2016 and 2023. These projects encompass a total length of 12,700 km with a combined bid project cost (BPC) of Rs 3.35 lakh crore and debt aggregating Rs 90,000 crore. HAM projects awarded before 2020, worth a BPC of Rs 1 lakh crore, are operational and have monetisation opportunities of Rs 9,000-11,000 crore now, benefiting both the NHAI a

725 road projects facing delays due to rains in some states: Gadkari

As many as 725 road projects of the total 1,801 ongoing projects are running behind the schedule across the country as of February 2023 due to protracted monsoon in many states and above-average rainfall in some states, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday. The Road Transport and Highways Minister in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha said additional cost is not incurred in all delayed projects as in Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) projects, as escalation cost is absorbed by the Concessionaire. For other projects, if the delay is attributable to the Project Authority, price escalation is paid as per contract conditions, which may or may not result in additional cost, depending upon the final value of price escalation determined on the actual completion of the project and final settlement of bills, he added. Replying to a separate question, Gadkari said the National Highways Authority of India has planted 344.27 lakh trees from 2016 to February 2023 under the green highways ..
