EAM Jaishankar meets Nepal's foreign secretary for bilateral cooperation

Nepalese Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday and apprised him of his talks with his Indian counterpart, Vinay Kwatra. "Pleased to receive Nepal's Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal. Glad to learn from him that his discussions in India have been productive," Jaishankar said in a tweet. Kwatra and Paudyal took stock of the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation on Tuesday, including in the areas of trade, connectivity, culture and people-to-people relations. Paudyal was on a visit to India from September 13 to September 14.

Govt approves signing of MoU with Nepal on biodiversity conservation

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an environment ministry proposal for signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Nepal on biodiversity conservation. The MoU would help in promoting cooperation between India and Nepal in the field of forests, wildlife, environment, biodiversity conservation and climate change, including restoration of corridors and interlinking areas, and sharing knowledge and best practices, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said in a statement on Wednesday. The region along the Indo-Nepal border hosts some of the best wildlife habitats remaining in the Indian subcontinent.

NHPC to sell hydro power to PTC India from upcoming Nepal projects

State-run hydro power giant NHPC has inked a pact with PTC India to supply electricity to be generated from upcoming West Seti & Seti River-6 projects in Nepal, a statement said on Tuesday. The MoU was signed by NHPC CMD A.K. Singh and Dr. Rajib K. Mishra, CMD, PTC India Limited. As per the MoU, PTC shall purchase the Contracted Capacity from NHPC from date of commercial operation of the projects for onward sale to the state utilities/discoms/bulk consumers on long term basis in India and neighbouring countries. The PTC India shall also endeavour to sell any untied capacity on medium/short term basis or on power exchanges, it stated.

Nepal President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on Friday inaugurated the Himalayan nation's first-ever human milk bank at a maternity and women's hospital here to give premature and other at-risk infants access to the vast benefits of breast milk when they need it the most. Amrit Kosh,' the human milk bank at the Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital has the facilities to collect, pasteurise, test, and store safe donor human milk from lactating mothers and then provide it to infants in need, officials said. The centre has been established in partnership between the Government of Nepal, the European Union and UNICEF.
