Mizoram to take decision on Maggi noodles after FSSAI nod

Mizoram government will take a decision on banning Maggi noodles only after receiving directions from the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI). Joint director (food and drugs) of the state health department Lalsawma told PTI that the Centre had not issued any instruction to the Mizoram government except to take precautionary measures even as some states have banned Maggi instant noodles. "We are in close contact with the FSSAI and will take decisions in accordance with its instructions," he said. Meanwhile, the state government has banned import and sale of four energy drinks following instructions from the FSSAI, he said. The state food safety commissioner issued an order yesterday banning energy drinks like Monster, Tzinga, Cloud 9 pomegranate/grape and Akoarama.

Designated Food Safety Officers have been informed of the action, the company said in a release."We believe that the uncertainty is unwarranted and undeserved. Two days ago, Future Group- took Maggi noodles off its shelves across the country after many states banned Maggi over the presence of lead and 'MSG'. Global retailers such as Walmart, Metro also withdrew Maggi from wholesale stores in the country in the wake of food safety issues pertaining to the brand.

Sunil Sethi: There's a noodle in my soup!

A quick disclaimer: I've eaten plenty of noodles, even dawdled over some, but never managed to make a meal of Maggi. That's not to say that my Maggi-less life has been wholly blameless. Buckling to importuning by students in far-flung hostels, and hard-pressed colleagues abroad hankering for a taste of home, I've been ferrying quantities of the culinary contraband for years.A friend's daughter for whom I routinely carried packets to her boarding school in the Himalayas reminded to me this week of how greedily they devoured the contents in a grungy mess. "Hostel food was horrible, as it usually is, and we were continually hungry; so we would tear open Maggi between meals, shove it into our plastic bathwater mugs with bits of soap sticking to the sides, pour in a little water, and consume it with unadulterated pleasure. The bathwater was hard and probably contaminated, our mugs were not quite clean, but what the hell, we've all survived without any disastrous side effects."When Maggi's N
