State-owned NLCIL has produced 1,234 crore units of green power, thereby preventing the emission of one crore tonne of carbon dioxide, a coal ministry statement said. Primarily a lignite-based power generating company, NLCIL is targeting 10,000 MW renewable energy capacity by 2030. NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) ventured into renewable energy with 1,380 MW of solar power plants and 51 MW of wind power plants. To achieve the target of 10,000 MW, NLCIL has formed new subsidiaries--NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL) to focus on asset monetisation and NLC India Green Energy Ltd (NIGEL) to spearhead clean energy initiatives. Furthermore, NLCIL's membership in the International Solar Alliance (ISA) underscores its commitment to environmental sustainability within the coal sector. With a current renewable energy capacity of 1.4 GW, NLCIL is set to quadruple this figure by 2030. NLC India Ltd on Monday said it has incorporated a wholly owned arm NLC India Green Energy Ltd (NIGEL) for commissioning of green projects. NIGEL will take care of planning, participating in upcoming renewable energy tenders, execution and commissioning of green energy projects, NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) said in a statement. The arm is likely to achieve 5 GW capacity by 2030 and contribute for carbon emission reduction, NLCIL Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli said. The navratna public sector undertaking has already incorporated a wholly owned arm NLC India Renewables Ltd for asset monetisation. At present, 2 GW of renewable energy projects are under implementation and will be taken up by NIGEL, including 600 MW solar power project in Gujarat and 810 MW solar photovoltaic power project in Rajasthan. The company's registered office is in Chennai and will start business operations in due course, as per the statement.
State-owned NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) on Friday reported a 111.6 per cent increase in its consolidated profit at Rs 417.03 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2022, due to higher revenue from operations. The company had posted a consolidated profit of Rs 197.02 crore in the year-ago period, NLC India said in a filing to BSE. The consolidated revenue from operations of the public sector unit in the July-September period increased to Rs 3,489.28 crore from Rs 3,093.80 crore in the year-ago period. NLCIL is a navratna company under the administrative control of the coal ministry.
