Four more workers, who were hospitalised after a service lift crashed at an under-construction society in Noida Extension, succumbed to their injuries on Saturday, pushing the death toll in the incident to eight, officials said. A financial compensation of Rs 25 lakh each has been issued for families of those killed in the incident, a senior officer said. The lift had nine workers in it when it fell from the 14th floor of an under-construction tower at an Amrapali Dream Valley project site in Noida Extension, also known as Greater Noida (West), on Friday morning. The long-stalled project is being completed by the state-run NBCC under the monitoring of the Supreme Court. "Four workers had died after the incident on Friday. Five of them were admitted to the district hospital in a critical condition. As India gears up to host its maiden MotoGP event at the Buddha International Circuit in Greater Noida in a fortnight, the "sluggish pace" of raising infrastructure at the local level has officials worried. Sources told PTI that hundreds of signages and over two dozen cameras are yet to be installed along the highways that pass through Noida and Greater Noida up to the venue along the Yamuna Expressway. Some signages installed already have lost visibility due to trees or need modification. Besides these, two key underpasses -- at Advant Navis building and at Sector 96 -- on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway are non-functional while several road patches require resurfacing. Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M on Friday held a meeting with two dozen real estate developers to discuss the recovery of Rs 26,000 crore in pending dues and difficulties faced by home buyers in 60 group housing projects, officials said. Expressing angst at the situation, the CEO directed his department that action, including the issuance of recovery certificates, should be initiated against builders who have not cleared their dues against the plots allotted to them, the Noida Authority said in a statement. Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) Managing Director Lokesh M inaugurated the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment facility at the Sector 51 metro station of the Aqua Line on Thursday. "The UPI facility for purchasing tickets from counters is now functional at all stations of the Noida-Greater Noida Metro corridor," an official of the NMRC said. The use of cash, credit and debit cards for purchasing tickets at the counter as well as the NMRC smart card at the customer care centre at all stations will continue as usual, the official added. The Sector 51 metro station, which has six ticket counters and one customer care centre, also has two automatic ticket vending machines (TVM) which have the UPI facility. The average monthly rental for premium housing rose 28 per cent year-on-year in Gurugram during the January-June period of this year on higher demand, limited supply and appreciation in capital values, according to Savills India. In Gurugram, the "average rentals witnessed an increase of 28 per cent YOY (year-on-year) across all markets. An earthquake of magnitude 1.5 occurred in Uttar Pradesh's Noida, adjoining Delhi, on Wednesday night, according to the National Centre for Seismology. The earthquake occurred at 8.57 pm at a depth of six kilometre with the epicenter in the Sector-128 area of Noida, the NCS website showed. A tremor of magnitude 1.5 is rarely felt on the surface. Central investigation agencies met the Noida Police on Thursday in connection with the probe in the Pakistani citizen Seema Haider's illegal entry into India, official sources said. The meeting comes in the wake of Uttar Pradesh Police's Anti-Terrorist Squad questioning Seema and his Indian partner Sachin Meena on Monday and Tuesday. Police in Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday invoked restrictions on public assembly under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), ordering that no unpermitted religious activity, such as namaz, puja or processions, would be carried out at public places and roads across Noida and Greater Noida. In unavoidable situations, permission for holding such activities would have to be taken from the commissioner of police or the additional commissioner of police or the deputy commissioners of police concerned of the three zones of the district, according to the order.
