India exported a record 48.86 tonnes of oilmeal -- used as animal feed -- during the 2023-24 financial year on revival of shipments of soyabean meal, industry body SEA said on Thursday. In value terms also, the country's oilmeal exports were highest at Rs 15,368 crore during 2023-24 fiscal. The previous record was 43.81 lakh tonnes achieved in 2013-14 fiscal, while in value terms shipments stood at Rs 11,500 crore. "This is the highest export of oilmeals since 2013-14 in terms of quantity and value," the Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA) said in a statement. The overall export of oilmeals during the April-March period of 2023-24 fiscal was highest at 48.86 lakh tonnes, up by 13 per cent from 43.36 lakh tonnes in the previous year. Oilmeals export rose 9 per cent year-on-year in February to nearly 5.16 lakh tonnes on higher outward shipments of soyabean meal, according to trade data. In a statement on Friday, Solvent Extraction of India (SEA) said the export of oilmeals in February stood at 515,704 tonne as compared to 4,71,770 tonne in the year-ago period. Of the total oilmeals export last month, the shipments of soyabean meal stood at 3,47,905 tonne and rapeseed meal 1,44,372 tonne. The data showed that the total export of oilmeals during the April-February period of this fiscal increased 19 per cent to 44,90,055 tonne as compared to 37,60,329 tonne in the corresponding period of the previous year. Oilmeals exports rose 36 per cent last month to nearly 2.9 lakh tonnes on higher shipments of soyabean meal and rapeseed meal, according to industry data. Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) data showed that the export of oilmeals in October stood at 2,89,931 tonnes as compared to 2,13,153 tonnes in the same month last year. Soyabean meal export rose to 87,060 tonnes last month from 40,196 tonnes in the year-ago period, while shipment of rapeseed meal increased to 1,69,422 tonnes from 98,571 tonnes during the period under review. "Foreign demand for Indian soyabean meal has benefited from improved price competitiveness and the shortage of Argentine export supplies in recent months," SEA said. "The major consumers of Indian soyabean meal are South East Asia, where India has a logistic advantage and also can supply in small lots," SEA Executive Director B V Mehta said. Oilmeal exports fell 35 per cent in June to 2,80,001 tonne, mainly due to lower demand of rapeseed meals from overseas, according to trade body SEA. Exports of oilmeals stood at 4,29,616 tonne in the same month last year. However, the overall exports of oilmeals rose 19 per cent to 12,10,045 tonne during April-June from 10,16,031 tonne in the corresponding period of the previous year. In the first quarter of 2023-24, export of soybean meal rose to 3,64,611 tonne compared to 75,454 tonne in the year-ago period. Exports of rapeseed meal fell to 6,20,738 tonne in April-June compared to 7,06,906 tonne in the corresponding period of the previous year. The country's export of oilmeal, used as animal feed, rose 38.45 per cent to 19.84 lakh tonnes during the April-October period of the current fiscal on sharp rise in shipment of rapeseed meal, industry body SEA said on Thursday. The country had exported 14.33 lakh tonnes of oilmeal in the same period of the previous financial year. According to Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA), out of the total oilmeal exports, the shipment of rapeseed meal doubled to 13.41 lakh tonnes during the April-October period of the current fiscal, from 6.58 lakh tonnes in the year-ago period. Export of rapeseed meal rose sharply on account of a record crop and crushing that resulted in highest processing and availability of the commodity, it said.
