Flipkart's 'Big Billion' sale logs 70% growth in premium mobile phone sales

E-commerce firm Flipkart has recorded 70 per cent growth in sales of premium mobile phones during the eight-day long festive season sale, the company said on Friday. Premium mobile phones costing Rs 20,000 and upwards comprised almost 50 per cent of the total mobile sales and more than 44 per cent of the buyers of premium mobile phones came from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. "India truly upgraded this Big Billion Days (BBD) with categories like mobiles, electronics and large appliances witnessing a growth of over 70 and 30 per cent each, respectively, in the uptake of premium products over the last BBD," Flipkart said in a statement. The company did not disclose the base number of sales it registered during The Big Billion Days (TBBD) in 2021. Walmart group claims to have recorded over 1 billion customer visits during the festive days, with tier-2 and 3 cities contributing 60 per cent of the total traffic, the company said. Online sales in festive month to cross Rs 20,000 crore: RedSeer

India's e-commerce firms may sell over $ 3.3 billion or Rs 20,000 crore worth of goods during the one month festive sale that ends around Deepavali on the back of deals offered by Amazon, Flipkart and Paytm Mall woo customers on their platforms.Since September 20, when the festive sales kicked off, e-commerce firms have lined up three events - offering deals for smartphones and consumer appliances that have given a boost to shopping online this year. The last of such events will begin on October 14 taking the cumulative sales during the month to grow by over 50 per cent when compared to last year, said RedSeer Consulting, an agency that tracks e-commerce sales in the country.
